Studies on Italian and Hungarian Valencies
Within the framework of the application we intend to continue the research regarding the analysis of the
Italian and Hungarian government structures, a study that has been carrying out for two decades (as a
result the Italian-Hungarian dictionary of the government structures of verbs /1981, 1998/, the ItalianHungarian dictionary of the government structures of adjectives /1996/, the Hungarian-Italian dictionary of
the government structures of adjectives /1996/ have been compiled). Now we are going to compose the
Hungarian-Italian dictionary of the government structures of verbs and the dictionaries of the government
structures of nouns.
With regards to the matter of the government structures of nouns only a few studies have been published
so far, even if considered the international research-programmes. Also data of nouns have been chosen
on the basis of frequency of usage and setting together the entry-words and its government structure
accompanied with usage examples will support or confute the establishments of the theoretical research
carried out so far.
The main difficulty in producing the Hungarian-Italian dictionary of the government structures of verbs is
the fact that there is no Hungarian (unilingual) dictionary of the government structures. So we have to set
up also the structures extended by the semantic components of about 400 most frequent Hungarian
verbs.
Both studies will have, beyond their theoretical importance, various results that can be invested in
language teaching.
Within the framework of the application we intend to compile:
a) the manuscript of the Italian dictionary of the government structures of nouns wich will contain the
setting of government structures of about 400 most frequent Italian nouns illustrated by examples;
b) the manuscript of the Hungarian-Italian dictionary of the government structures of verbs where the
government structures of about 450 most frequent Hungarian verbs, the correspondent Italian structures
and Hungarian and Italian examples will be found.
At last one of the studies will also be published as a book. Our experiences of research achieved during
the three years of the application will be exposed in conferences and essay.
