The team of inspectors with the HIV/AIDS Bureau of the U.S. Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) toured the hospital and the WHIC facility on Grandview Avenue over a period of several days in the early summer. The review was arranged to make sure WHIC was complying with federal guidelines for Ryan White Part C Early Intervention Grant funding the hospital received in 2003. By the time the site review was over, the team of inspectors offered glowing remarks for the WHIC team. “This is one of the best programs that I have seen,” concluded Anthony Fox, the Administrative Consultant and HRSA Team Leader for the site review. “This is a very well run program and serves as a model for others.” The clinic will continue to receive Ryan White Part C grant funding through at least 2012. Since it was established in 2003, WHIC has grown more than two-fold to a fullservice organization that boasts six examination rooms. The staff includes three full-time and one part-time Board-certified Infectious Disease physicians, a psychiatrist and an APRN. “I am extremely proud of the HRSA reviewer’s findings,” said Steven Aronin, MD, Chief of the Infectious Disease Section at Waterbury Hospital.
