Request to Convert from Casual to Non-Casual Employment (TAFE Staff) PROCEDURE – PLEASE READ BEFORE COMPLETING THE APPLICATION A casual TAFE staff member may apply for conversion to continuing or fixed-term employment provided that they meet the eligibility criteria. All conversions must comply with the relevant conditions in the Victorian TAFE Teaching Staff Multi-Business Agreement 2009. Steps to be completed: 1. Staff member complete Section One, and sends form together with attachments to Human Resources. 2. Human Resources check that staff member meets eligibility criteria and completes Section Two. If staff member meets eligibility criteria, HR sends the form to the Manager. If staff member does not meet eligibility criteria, the staff member is notified in writing, providing the grounds for rejection. 3. The Manager completes Section Three. If the Manager supports the application, they complete an Appointment Approval and attach a PD, then send the documents to the delegated authority for approval of the appointment, and then to HR for preparation of employment paperwork. If the Manager rejects the application, they send the form to HR who will notify the staff member in writing, providing the grounds for rejection. 4. Human Resources prepares employment paperwork and finalises the appointment of the staff member, or notifies them of the grounds for rejection.. The staff member’s performance is unsatisfactory, and has been discussed with them previously. The staff member is a student, or has recently been a student (except where irrelevant to their engagement and work). The staff member is a genuine retiree. The staff member is performing work which will either cease to be required, or will be performed by a non-casual staff member, within 26 weeks (from the date of this application) The staff member has a primary occupation with the University or elsewhere, either as a staff member or as a self-employed person. The work performed by the staff member is ad hoc, intermittent, un-predicable or involves hours that are irregular. The staff member has applied for conversion and had his/her application rejected within the previous 12 months of this application and the ground for the rejection continues to apply. Other: COMMENTS: NOTE: An employee whose application for conversion is rejected will not be entitled to apply again within 12 months, except where: that rejection is solely based on the ground that the employee is performing work which will either cease to be required, or will be performed by a non-casual employee within 26 weeks from the date of receipt of the casual employee’s application for conversion; and that ground ceased to apply.
