Award for the best museum
ENTRY DOSSIER FOR 2014
The Živa Award has been established in 2012 on the initiative of an expert project
group from the Forum of Slavic Culture member countries. Slavic goddess Živa (also
Żiwia, Siva, Sieba or Razivia) represents a principle of life, longevity, youthfulness,
beauty, mildness, vitality and fertility. These are the attributes that should describe also
condition of Slavic heritage.
With the award we would like to recognize excellence in the sector of movable and
immovable heritage in a special region in Europe, promote the best practices in the
tangible cultural heritage and also to stimulate exchanges of knowledge and
experience throughout our countries and beyond. We would like also to encourage
further exemplary initiatives through the power of example.
Applications are welcomed from all types of museums: scientific, technical,
industrial museums or science centers, also historical, ethnographical, architecture or
natural history museums, established long ago or recently opened on the local, regional,
or state levels.
INFORMATION ON THE FORUM OF SLAVIC CULTURES
The Forum of Slavic Cultures is a non-profit and non-government organization that was
founded in 2004 on the initiative of the Slavic cultural circles. The basic aim of the
organization is to connect Slavic cultural milieu and actualize it in the modern global
social context. The Forum of Slavic Cultures links and presents Slavic culture, science
and arts, their creative charge and heritage, while it also actively cares for a
recognizable contribution of Slavic cultures to global dialogue.

INFORMATION ON THE EUROPEAN MUSEUM ACADEMY (EMA)
EMA is a non-profit Foundation established to reflect museums at the international
level, to promote research on museography and museology as a high cultural activity, to
provide constructive criticism and promote discussion on new exhibitions and
museums, and to diffuse museological knowledge and ideas among members of the
profession. It aims to promote the conception and development of new as well as of
traditional museums as tools of social change.

INFORMATION ON THE FACULTY OF HUMANITIES AT THE
UNIVERSITY OF PRIMORSKA
The Faculty of Humanities at the University of Primorska offers both undergraduate and
postgraduate degree courses as well as engaging in scientific and specialist activities in
the field of humanities, arts and social studies. The Faculty of Humanities has gained
recognition for its great dynamism due to its progressive orientation, its creativity and
capacity for critical thinking, as well as to the collaboration of its dedicated teaching
staff together with students in an atmosphere of mutual support.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRIES
The Živa Award is award for outstanding achievements in the sector of movable and
immovable heritage in a Slavic Europe.
The jury is looking especially for the outstanding and creative use of collections,
combined with an innovative interpretative approach for all of the following areas:
scientific, technical, industrial museums or science centers, also historical,
ethnographical, architecture or natural history museums, established long ago or
recently opened on the local, regional, or state levels. The role of the museum in its
locality is also important. Especially, it will consider pedagogical programs for children,
young people and others.
The decision of the jury will be adopted according to the following criteria:
 Type of the museum;
 Allocated budget and type of funding;
 Permanent space, number of exhibitions, collections and facilities;
 Human resources, permanent staff, management, volunteers;
 Facilities for visitors, creativity in the selection of topics;
 Design and general atmosphere;
 Number of the visitors and opening times;
 Bright ideas, new visitors, innovative pedagogical concepts;
 Design and general atmosphere;
 Activities and events, including educational programmes, family and/or special
group events, courses, workshops and relevance to the school curriculum;
 Use of new media (for example, the website, multimedia applications and social
media), taking into account accessibility, quality and quantity, attractiveness for
youngsters;
 Social responsibility in relation to local, regional and national communities;
 Sustainability in the future.
The Jury will be composed of experts from the European Museum Academy experts
from the Forum of Slavic Cultures and students from The Faculty of Humanities at the
University of Primorska.

INFORMATION ON COMPLETE ENTRY DOSSIER
A complete entry dossier should include:
1. Signed cover letter in pdf file;
2. Signed letter of consent and declaration of entrant in pdf file;
3. Filled and signed entry form in pdf file;
4. Separate folder Images with up to 20 digital images, 300 dpi in JPEG
format, with one exterior, general views of the exhibitions and pictures
which illustrate your strong candidature for the award. Pictures must be
free of copyright and accompanied by an authorization, which enables
FSC and EMA to use them for non-commercial purposes in its printed
materials, on the Internet as well as in training programs;
5. Separate folder Other with scanned copies of a brochure, leaflet or other
publicity material you wish to include (please do not send paper copies!).

The deadline for the submission is 20 May 2014.
