A If your child is absent, please call the building at (937.259.6620) to let Mrs. Dix know.
Please also send a note stating the reason for the absence when your child returns to school
to avoid an unexcused absence.
Arrival time for the beginning of the school day is between 8:00 and 8:10 AM. Students
should not arrive prior to 7:45 AM, since supervision by the school staff is not available. No
child or parent should be in the building before this time.
B Breakfast is free and served every morning starting at 7:45.
Book Buddy/Reading Bags go home every night and are returned every morning. Spelling word
ring, Hunk and Chunks book, Talking Book, and leveled Reading book will be in this bag. These
items are to be reviewed during nightly homework.
BG Behaviors: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship. If
students are caught being good they may get announced on the morning announcements and
receive a special reward.
Birthdays are special occasions for young children. If your child wishes, he/she may bring a
treat for the class. Please do not send birthday party invitations to distribute at school
unless all students receive an invitation.
Book order forms will be sent home from time to time. Scholastic Book clubs offer books at
reduced prices and are a great way to keep your child interested in reading.
C Conferences will be held November 1st, 2nd, and 8th. You and your child will attend
together because these are Student-Led conferences. We will discuss data binders, overall
progress, and any concerns and/or questions. Reminder forms will be sent home in October.

Blue: Walk all of recess
Orange: Walk all of recess, officer referral to the principal, write a behavior
plan, and a phone call home
2 hour delays occur throughout the year for staff development. School will start at 10am on
2 hour delay days and we will not serve breakfast. The 2012/2013 two hour delay days are
September 26th, January 30th and February 27th.
E Email address of Mrs. Mossing is: lisa.mossing@madriverschools.org
Early Release Days will take place Oct. 18th, Dec. 19th, March 8th and May 30th. Students
will eat lunch at school on these days then be dismissed early. Check calendars for dismissal
times.
F We will try to take at least two field trips a year. Information about field trips will come
home in your child’s red folder.
G We will have gym class on Monday and Wednesday from 12:45-1:15 with Mr. Bostick.
The students are asked to wear (or bring) athletic shoes on gym days.
H Homework: Students are expected to do homework Monday – Thursday. If homework is
not returned, students will lose 10 minutes of recess by walking laps, unless there is a note
from you.
I Independence is a goal for students to build self-esteem and self-confidence. We will be
working to help them build organization skills to help them become more independent and
more successful in school.
J I hope to make this a great and educational journey for your child.
K Students in our classroom are encouraged and expected to treat all members of our
school with kindness and respect. They will earn tickets for displaying good BG behaviors and
become part of the “BG ticket clubs”.
L We will visit the library on Tuesday from 12:30-1:00 with Mrs. Mason. Be sure your child’s
library book remains in their back pack when not reading it. If books are not returned,
students do not get to check out another one.
Lunch: Mrs. Mossing’s class eats between 11:30-11:50.
You are welcome to join your child anytime for lunch, but please let me know so I can tell the
office to expect you (or another family member). Also, come a couple of minutes early so you
don’t miss out on any time eating lunch with your child.
Lunch accounts: each student has an account that you can refill online or send money to
school. If lunch money is sent to school, please send it in your child’s red folder and make
sure it is marked clearly with your child’s name and ‘Lunch Money’. (an envelope or baggie
works well.)
M We will have music on Thursday and Friday 12:45-1:15 with Ms. Neukirchner.
Our BG School Mission is to learn and be prepared for the next grade.
To accomplish this we will:
-Do our very best.
-Listen and follow directions.
-Respect others.
-Take care of our school and classroom.
-Resolve conflicts peacefully.
-Work together as a team.
Math intervention groups: Students will be divided by ability based on scores from Unit
Pretests. The first grade teachers will then divide up their classes to meet the needs of each
student. This means that your child may or may not have their homeroom teacher for math.
We will meet for math groups Monday through Thursday from 9:50-11:00.
N There will be No School on September 3
rd
, November 12th, November 21st, 22nd, and 23rd
(Thanksgiving Holiday), December 20th through Jan. 2nd (Winter Break), January 21st,
February 18th, March 29th through April 5th (Spring Break), and May 27th.
O
I am grateful for the opportunity to work with your child and I will work hard to make
sure they achieve to their highest potential and have a fun and exciting school year.
P When picking up your child early, please send a note and I will have your child ready for
when you come to sign them out in the office.
Parent help in the classroom is always welcomed. Your support of school activities makes your
child feel important and sends the message that you value school!
PBS Rewards: Students earn tickets for displaying good BG behaviors in the school. Tickets
help them earn their way into the 25, 50, 75 and 100 ticket clubs. Tickets are given out by all
of the staff at BG.
25 ticket club: gets their picture on the BG board and receives a token for a free
Texas Roadhouse meal.
50 ticket club: gets to be a Student Teacher in any teacher’s room of their choosing.
75 ticket club: gets to eat a special lunch with Mrs. Fields, our principal.
100 ticket club: receives a BG spiritwear t-shirt signed by all of the BG staff.
We also have PBS rewards for meeting classroom behavior goals. Students are rewarded for
staying on green at least 75% of the days during a reward period. (Individualized behavior
goals will be discussed on an individual basis as needed.) These rewards could include a school
Sock hop, Carnival, Movie/PJ day/Popcorn, and Games in the park.
Q
Questions? Feel free to call me (937.259.6620), stop in, email
(lisa.mossing@madriverschools.org), or send a note.
R Report Cards will be sent home 3 times during the school year. The final report card will
be mailed home after the end of the school year. All fees must be paid and all books returned
in order to receive a report card.
Reading intervention groups: Students will be assessed by Running Records about every 9
weeks to determine their guided reading level. Students will then be divided into groups
among the first grade team. This means that your child may or may not have their homeroom
teacher for reading. We will meet for reading groups Monday through Thursday from 8:309:30.
Each student has a Red Folder for items that need to be returned to school or kept at home.
This is one of the best ways to communicate between home and school. Please check your
child’s Red folder daily and empty all papers from the “Keep at Home” side of the folder.
RAZ-Kids: Each student has a RAZ-Kids account that they can log onto at school and home to
practice reading and answering questions. A paper with the logon information will be sent to
families in September. The website is: http://www.raz-kids.com/main/Login
Recess lasts for 20 minutes immediately following lunch. (11:50-12:10)
S Snacks: Please send in a healthy snack for your child every day. This snack should be
something that can be eaten in about 5 minutes and no juice boxes please.
School fees can be paid at the front office. They are $30.00 for the year. If school fees are
not, paid report cards will not be sent home. (These fees cover all of our math workbooks,
Scholastic News, and other curriculum items that the students use.)
Spirit Day is every Friday. Students and teachers are encouraged to wear red and/or gray to
show school spirit. The classroom that has the greatest percentage of students wearing red
and/or gray wins the school spirit flag to display outside the classroom for the next week.
T
Bringing toys to school is discouraged because they distract the children from learning.
If a toy is accidentally lost or broken, feelings will be hurt. Students may bring in books that
are clearly marked with your child's name.
U We do not have a uniform at BG but please no flip flops or spaghetti strap tops and try
to make sure clothing is comfortable for your child. Send in a sweater or sweatshirt for the
days when our room may be a bit chilly.
V
Volunteers and Visitors are welcome at all times but must sign-in at the office and pick
up a badge.
