Graduation with Leadership Honors Wood Center – Division of Student and Enrollment Services In order to recognize exemplary UAF student leaders, the Graduation with Leadership Honors distinction is awarded each semester. As leaders among their peers, these students are commended for their service, commitment, and achievements, which positively contribute to the quality of life in the UAF community. Applications for Graduation with Leadership Honors are available in Wood Center and at www.uaf.edu/leadership. Recipients are selected based on their exemplary leadership contributions, as assessed by the UAF LIVE Program and the Graduation with Leadership Honors Selection Committee. Recipients will be recognized with certificates and crimson cords which are to be worn with graduation gowns. Minimum Award Criteria Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 at the time of the application with projected graduation in the current academic year. (Slightly lower GPA’s will be considered only in extraordinary situations; extraordinary situations should be addressed in a separate document.) Demonstrated leadership involvement in activities such as student government (ASUAF, Club Council, and special appointments), clubs/student organizations, Residence Hall Association, student employment, volunteer service, campus committees, civic involvement, and community and statewide programs. Demonstrated commitment to one’s own leadership development, such as, but not limited to, participation in UAF LIVE program events (Coffee Conversations, Leadership Dates, Leadership Lunches, and other activities sponsored by the UAF Leadership Program); the annual UAF Leadership Conference; national and statewide leadership conferences, events, and activities; coursework or job training specific to leadership. Demonstrated contributions to the University of Alaska Fairbanks community; your application should demonstrate how your leadership has positively impacted our campus. No record of significant or sustained violations of the UAF Code of Conduct. Application, 2009-2010 Page 1 2009-2010 Application Deadline The application deadline for fall and spring graduates is April 2, 2010 at 5pm. How to Apply Applications should be delivered to the LIVE Program in Wood Center on or before the deadline. Please include the following items in a professional application packet: A signed copy of the application form. A 2-page narrative describing your leadership contributions to UAF. Please discuss what being a leader at UAF has meant to you, describe the most meaningful leadership role you have participated in, and describe the positive impact your leadership has had on our campus community. A comprehensive Leadership Activities Record (this form may be copied if necessary and must be typed). Two current letters of recommendation from people who can attest to your leadership ability and your contributions to our campus community (recommendation letters must be written specifically for this application and should address the leadership activities you mention in your application; an original copy of each letter of recommendation must either be included in the application packet or mailed directly to the Leadership Program by the deadline).
