POSITION SUMMARY:
This position requires the incumbent to work as a mobile crisis therapist providing community-based crisis prevention and intervention to a wide variety of children and adolescents having various types of disabilities. This is a day time position with no on-call responsibilities.
The incumbent will be required to work with other community agencies, including local schools, law enforcement, and other agencies in the prevention or reduction of mental health emergencies, of unnecessary psychiatric hospitalization, detention by law enforcement, or other events that may adversely affect a child or adolescent. All services must be provided under the general supervision of the CYFS Supervisor.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.
Will assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of “Memphis Model”-style
Crisis Intervention Program. This will require cooperation with the NWCS CIT Supervisor for the purposes of training and direction.
2.
Provides a variety of crisis intervention or crisis prevention services in various community locations, including schools, hospitals, and private residences. Services will include crisis counseling, crisis case management, consultation, transportation, and report writing. The incumbent may be required to perform pre-admission screening to hospitals, but not as a regular part of duties.

Will be expected to collaborate and liaison with school personnel, law enforcement officers, local hospitals, medical providers, NWCS outpatient clinics, and others in the planning, provision, and evaluation of these services.

Required participation in clinical staff conferences to ensure the smooth integration and transition of clients into or between various aspects of the NWCS service delivery system.
5.
Assists in maintaining an up-to-date Crisis Resource Directory for children and adolescents.

Receives on-going supervision from the Child and Adolescent Coordinator
7.
Provides support, education, and service coordination to significant others on behalf of individuals who are receiving services from NWCS Child and Family Services staff
8.
Participates in regular meetings to coordinate cases and to review intervention outcomes as a means of enhancing the provision of future child and adolescent crisis intervention services.
9.
Produces client related service records and maintains accurate and up-to-date documentation consistent with agency policies and procedures.
10.
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor which are consistent with the position and in compliance with agency policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge:
Considerable knowledge of child and adolescent psychology in mental health, mental retardation, and substance abuse areas; of primary models and techniques for treatment of individuals for the purposes of crisis prevention and intervention; of appropriate methodologies for assessing psychopathology; of medications used in the treatment of psychiatric disorders; working knowledge of community systems, resources, and inter-agency networking; basic knowledge of voluntary and involuntary admission to state facilities such as local jails or correctional facilities.

Demonstrated ability to: be flexible regarding work assignments; work effectively as a part of a team; collaborate, consult, and liaison with community agencies; work with individuals in non-traditional settings; assess needs and develop appropriate intervention or initial treatment strategies; to remain calm and reassuring in crisis situations and to intervene appropriately; to assist in evaluating and accessing available resources and work effectively with community resources; to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; to accurately prepare and maintain client records and write reports and summaries; to exercise professional judgment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Advanced educational degree (license preferred, but not required) in a relevant field with professional, clinical experience in the provision of crisis prevention, crisis intervention, and crisis case management, or a combination of education, training, and experience indicating the possession of essential knowledge, skills, and abilities; and, must be able to transport/drive provide own transportation as necessary. Incumbent will be required to obtain additional agency training, including State Emergency Services certification, following employment.
