A plan of proposed activity as per attached sample plans and Content Requirements for Disposition Plans.
A location plan must show:
(i) proposed works in relation to property lines
(ii) if applicable, any municipal reserve lands between the applicants property and the water body
(iii) location of proposed works and the present, highest, and lowest known water levels
(iv) if applicable, dimensions of the site (e.g. outer boundary of the area required to enclose the installation)
(v) minimum plan size 21.5 cm x 28 cm
Cross sections must show:
(i) existing conditions and proposed modifications
(ii) relevant measurements
(iii) minimum plan size 21.5 cm x 28 cm
A letter stating:
(i) what the proposal is
(ii) why it needs to be done
If available, a photograph, or copy of a photograph showing the existing shore line
Note: A development permit may be required from the local authority where the proposed activity may involve the use of Municipal
Reserve lands.

under the Public Lands Act and the Water Act
The Crown claims ownership of the bed and shore of all permanent and naturally occurring bodies under Section
3(1) of the Public Lands Act. Bank stabilization projects on the bed and shore of waterbodies is normally
undertaken by adjacent property owners to protect their property from naturally occurring erosion. Permanent
occupation may include, but is not limited to, a boat launch, beach modification, aquatic vegetation control, outfall or
intake, or waterline. A Licence of Occupation under the Public Lands Act is required for permanent occupation of
public land. To obtain a Licence of Occupation the following items are required:


A completed application with the information listed on the application form
A location plan that meets department standards at: srd.alberta.ca and search for “Content Requirements for
Disposition Sketch Plans”.
Note that a survey may be requested if it is required to accurately locate the site of the improvements.


Application fee of $50.00 + GST
Digital mapping fee of $125.00
First Nations Consultation is required on applications for use of public land. Please go to srd.alberta.ca and search
for “First Nations Consultation – Lands” for information on completing this component of the application process.
If the application package is incomplete then amendments may be required and additional costs will be incurred.
Once the Licence is approved rental will be assessed in accordance with the purpose.
Prior to starting construction in a waterbody in Alberta, approval under the Water Act is required.
To obtain approval under the Water Act please go to environment.alberta.ca and then select the Information
Centre and search for “Water Act Approvals”.

Charges may be assessed upon completion of the review.

Application packages must include all the supplementary information indicated on the application form and on the
fact sheet.
Both approvals must be in place prior to initiating construction on the proposed project.

