Project Summary: The sciences of the mind and the technologies they have spawned throw up a
host of ethical challenges for our societies. The power they bring directly to intervene in the mind,
controlling mood, elevating abilities and even reading and inserting thoughts, poses unprecedented
problems, both for our existing ethics and for our self-understanding. This project will develop a
framework for the ethical regulation of these technologies and will seek to understand the
implications of these sciences for our conception of human agency.
