Contest Review: 2012 United We Stand Benefit Meet The Dungeon * Port Charlotte, Florida Praise God! The 2012 United We Stand Benefit Meet at The Dungeon in Port Charlotte, Florida proved to be a great day of lifting and fellowship! Thanks to Chris Burkett, owner of The Dungeon, and the gym members that both competed and supported the contest; we are really looking forward “The Dungeon Power Day” on May 19! Loma Amore certainly held her own as the meet’s only female contestant, going nine for nine and shattering the record books in the 55-59, 165s on lifts of 265, 160, and 335. Coached by Bob Gaynor, Loma was poised on the platform and displayed outstanding technique in her R.A.W. United debut. Masters Champion Bill Remley of Inverness, Florida brought four generations of family members to compete at the event! James Smith (12-13, 132s), Will Remley (10-11, 148s), Colton Remley (14-15, 198s), James Remley (45-49, 198s), and Bill (80-84, 181s) all shared the platform. R.A.W. United has always prided itself on being a “family-friendly” federation, and it was awesome to watch Bill and his family competing together! Three members of Wounded Warrior Project’s TRACK Program competed for the first time. Chris Maiten (Operation Iraqi Freedom), Greg Edwards (Operation Iraqi Freedom), and Jerome Krammes (Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom) asked me to thank everyone for their support at the meet, and the federation’s support of the injured servicemen and women at Wounded Warrior Project. Additionally, Operation Enduring Freedom veteran Mark Stanhope (45-49, 275s) also competed. Mark has continued to get stronger at each meet since his return home from combat operations, registering a 900 pound total in the IRONMAN, No Belt category. All four lifters plan to compete at the Beau Moore Classic on March 10 at Jackson Springs Recreation Center in Tampa, Florida. Sam Campese and Will Vilella represented The Dungeon, erasing any doubt that Chris Burkett’s gym is a true “lifting facility.” Both Sam and Will shattered the record books in their respective weight classes and age groups, and have very bright futures in the sport if they choose to continue competing! Outstanding performances were also registered by Danny Aguirre (40-44, 181s), Eric Koenreich (25-29, 198s), Chad Sprindis (18-19, 220s), Kyle Mishler (20-24, 220s), and Pat Wilson (20-24, 275s). Danny went nine for nine, breaking the squat, deadlift, and total records, on lifts of 475, 315, and 580. After missing his first squat on a technical error, Eric came back and nailed all his remaining lifts, to finish with a solid 1300 pound total. Chad Sprindis, one of the strongest teenage lifters on our rolls, nailed lifts of 425, 350, and 585 with more “gas in the tank” for his 1360 total, while Kyle Mishler, who is still recovering from a serious injury, had an incredible day posting a 400 pound bench and 610 pound deadlift in the push/pull. Finally, Pat Wilson of Fort Myers, Florida owned the platform, hitting HUGE lifts of 600, 480, and 680 for a 1760 total in the junior, 275s. All in all, an awesome day of lifting! Special thanks to Sir Charles Venturella for the AWESOME awards; Brigid and the folks at Sandpiper Sportswear for the AWESOME R.A.W. UNITED shirts; and Chris Burkett and the members of The Dungeon for coming out in support of our injured servicemen and women, and all our lifters. Thanks! More special thanks to Chris Burkett, owner of The Dungeon, for hosting the meet and snapping some incredible shots of the lifting; Bob Gaynor, Shawn “Bud” Lyte of BMF Sorts, Tom O’Donnell, and Carmen Aguirre for judging; Tom O’Donnell, Jordan Wong, and David Fowler for spotting/loading; and Rolando Manso and Lance Betts for helping out all the lifters. Thank you so very much! And the most important thanks to the brave men and women serving in harm’s way so that we can enjoy a day of lifting and fellowship, and to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for another opportunity to honor Him on the platform. Be strong in the Lord and the power of His might!
