November Closes
Gracefully with Grandparents
Held Genuinely!
Dear Parents and Friends,
November was full and special in so many anticipated and unexpected ways!
Closing out the month with some 40-plus grandparents attending on Tuesday, November 24, the
“no stress, no press” CWS Grandparents’ Day honoring our “deeply-valued, essential family
members” by offering “a chance to experience first hand the care and creativity that fills their
dear one’s school life,” we were all delighted by the new-found warmth and communal embrace
provided by our Hearth Room space, an emerging gathering point and shelter-in-the-storm with
its new chairs and reclaimed shelves and remarkable spirit-lifting, soul-honoring photography
(thank you again, Robert – www.radifera.com!) gracefully capturing our children at their most
honest and unscripted during Michaelmas, Harvest Assembly and The Lantern Walk.
Together, we weathered the storm, we acknowledged nature’s power to alter human landscape
and ultimately re-set the stage, uniting and rejoicing in the unique, priceless offerings of our
small, striving school community.
We remain faithful to the intention, vigilant of the vision. With gratitude, Cam

2) Social Inclusion, Part II: “Kim Payne Returns!”
A Special Announcement (and see PDF flyers posted about campus!):
“Courtesy of generous donations by parents and teachers, we are able to fund a modified return
visit by Kim John Payne in December.
A public lecture on Simplicity Parenting: Using the Extraordinary Power of Less to Raise
Calmer and More Socially Resilient and Secure Kids will be held at Burnley-Moran Elementary
on Thursday, December 10th at 7pm.
Tickets will be sold in advance ($8) from cwsevents@cwaldorf.org. Please mark your calendars;
we would love to see all seats filled. Signed copies of Kim John Payne's new book Simplicity
Parenting will be available for purchase at the lecture.
Please note that there is no school on Friday, December 11th. Teachers and SICG members will
be attending an all-day training workshop, so that the second year of Social Inclusion will be off
to a smooth start.
Many thanks again to all who contributed to make this visit happen!” Your CWS SICG.
3) Spiral of Lights – for CWS Parents and Friends!
Mark your calendars for a soothing, peaceful moment in the holiday rush.
On Wednesday, December 16, at 6:45 all adults (friends, family, alumni -- 9th grade and up) are
invited to join the adult spiral.
At 6:30 soft music will start playing in the darkened room (upper deck of the grade school). You
come in and sit down between 6:30 - 6:45. Around 6:45 a designated person will get up, take an
apple with a candle from a waiting tray, walk slowly into the spiral, light their candle from the
central light, walk back and place it somewhere in the spiral and return to sit. Everyone will
individually follow that path until the room is lit by a light from each of us. Then we quietly
leave. This magical ceremony will be followed by each of the classes on Thursday.
Any questions or further information please contact Virginia Masterson.
