A. Personal Statement

I received a doctoral degree in epidemiology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and completed postdoctoral training in pharmacoepidemiology at the same institution. Most of my research has focused on outcomes in patients with rheumatic diseases using observational data. During my post-doctoral training, I have developed a strong interest in the utilization of administrative claims data for clinical research. These data contains valuable information for each patient-doctor encounter for tens of thousands of patients and are powerful tools to answer many of the research questions related to the use, safety and effectiveness of medications. I am particularly interested in methods to use such data for pharmacoepidemiologic research.
