International Student Scholarship Guidelines

1. The “Tainan National University of the Arts – International Student
Scholarship Guidelines” (hereinafter referred to as “the Guidelines”) were
established to support the government policy of increasing recruitment of
international students in Taiwan and to encourage outstanding international
students to study at the University.
2. The “International Students” referred in the Guidelines means foreign
students who have met the admission qualifications prescribed in Article 2,
Paragraph 1 and Paragraph 2 of the “Tainan National University of the
Arts – Regulations Governing International Students’ Study in Taiwan”.
3. Maximum Duration of the Scholarship:
(1.) The maximum duration of the scholarship varies depending on the
level of degree pursued: Four years for undergraduates, two years
for a master’s degree and four years for a doctoral degree. For
each student, however, the accumulated period of receiving the
scholarship should not exceed five years.
(2.) A student shall be eligible for applying the scholarship from the
date of his/her enrollment in the school until the date of his/her
graduation, suspension, or withdrawal from the school. Students
are not allowed to apply for the scholarship during the period of
extended study.
4. Number and amount of the scholarships:
(1.) Six scholarships are offered to undergraduate students for each
academic year, at a value of NT$40,000 for each student. Seven
scholarships are offered to students seeking master’s (doctoral)
degrees for each academic year, at a value of NT$60,000 for each
student.
(2.) The scholarship is only available to students who have completed
enrollment procedures for the specific year.
(3.) The total value and number of the international scholarship for

different study programs shall be adjusted based on the budget for
the year and the number of applicants.
5. Application Criteria:
(1.) New Students: The eligible candidates should be international
students who have applied to the University according to Article 2 of
the Guidelines and been admitted by the Student Recruitment
Committee. The International Academic Exchange Assessment
Committee shall review the applications and determine the recipients
of the scholarship. A notice shall be sent to the awarded candidates
accordingly.
(2.) Existing Students: Existing students who have studied at the University
for more than one semester and is maintaining a regular student status
may apply for the scholarship if they meet the following requirements:
a. Undergraduate Students: The applicant must have completed at
least 16 credits during the preceding semester, with an average
score of 75 or above. The student should not have received
admonition or more severe disciplinary measures from the
school.
b. Graduate Students (students seeking master’s or doctoral
degrees): The applicant must have completed at least 9 credits or
above during the preceding semester, with an average score of
80 or above. The student should not have received admonition or
more severe disciplinary measures from the school.
c. In the event that a graduate student (a student seeking master’s
or doctoral degrees) has completed all the required credits but
does not have any academic record for the preceding semester
when he/she was engaged in thesis writing, the student should
meet the average scores stipulated in the preceding two items.
The applicant should, in the meantime, submit a recommendation
letter issued by the thesis advisor and the dissertation research
proposal (including the motivation and objectives of the research,
its structure and design, the source of information, summary of
the dissertation and references, etc.). In addition, the student

should not have received any admonition or more severe
disciplinary measures from the school. Only one submission is
allowed for these applicants.
d. Foreign students who have acted as the leader of student clubs
with an average academic score of 70 or above during the
previous academic year (75 or above for students under the
master or doctoral programs) may also apply for the scholarship
by submitting the relevant certificates for the leadership or the
achievement reports for the student club. Only one submission
is allowed for such applicants.
6.
Schedule of the Application/Review Process
(1.) The application and review shall be administered once each
academic year. Two payments shall be made each year, respectively
each semester.
(2.) New Students: The scholarship shall be offered according to the
schedule of the annual recruitment process. Applications should be
submitted according to the schedule announced by the Office of
International Affairs.
(3.) Existing Students: Applications should be submitted during the period
from September 15 to September 30 each year.
7. Application Documents:
(1.) New Students: Please follow the procedures announced by the Office
of International Affairs.
(2.) Existing Students:
a. The application form provided by the Office.
b. One letter of recommendation. (From the tutor or thesis advisor)
c. Transcript of academic performance for the previous semester.
d. Portfolio or other favorable documents to prove the professional
achievement of the applicant.
8.
Assessment Criteria:
(1.) New Students: The selection shall be made by the International
Academic Exchange Assessment Committee.
(2.) Existing
Students:
The
International
Academic
Exchange
Assessment Committee shall determine the winners of the

scholarship based on the following criteria. The results shall be
announced and advised to the applicants.
a. Academic achievements 40%.
b. Portfolio and other professional achievements 60%。

Pursuant to Article 3 of the “Tainan National University of the Arts –
Internal
Assessment
Guidelines
for
International
Exchange
Scholarship/Subsidy Programs”, the International Academic Exchange
Assessment Committee shall be organized by the dean of academic
affairs, dean of student affairs and the deans of the related colleges. The
Committee shall be chaired by the director of the Office of International
Affairs.
10.
Students who have already received the Taiwan Scholarship granted by
the Ministry of Education or other scholarships granted by the University
shall not be entitled for this scholarship. They shall be demanded to return
the funds unduly received, if confirmed after an investigation.
11. The entitlement for the scholarship shall be voided if the recipient fails to
complete the enrollment procedures, has applied for reservation of school
admission or for suspension of schooling, or has transferred out or
graduated from the University during the year when the admission is
granted. Students who have resumed study after a suspension of
schooling shall not be eligible for continuous receipt of the scholarship.
12. The scholarship shall be withdrawn in case that the recipient is found to
have provided false or misleading information. The fund received by the
student should be returned to the University accordingly.
13. The Guidelines shall be implemented after it is resolved in the
Administrative Meeting and approved by the President of the University.
The same procedure shall apply for all future amendments.
