LU, Tracey Lie-dan (Chinese University of Hong Kong) Cultural Dynamics in Prehistoric Hong Kong Archaeological data have suggested that there were cultural exchanges between residents of prehistoric Hong Kong and adjacent areas, such as South China and the Yangzi River Valley. However, studies on the cultural dynamics among groups of peoples in prehistoric Hong Kong are far from sufficient. Based on archaeological data, particularly on typological and contextual analysis of pottery and stone implements, it is argued that there were cultural contacts and exchanges within prehistoric Hong Kong residents in terms of manufacturing techniques and human behaviours. A hypothesis on this issue is proposed for further study. Methods to study the similarities and differences of prehistoric cultures and cultural dynamics in Hong Kong are also discussed.
