The School of Psychology seeks to appoint an Associate Professor (Level D) in one of
the following areas: Cognition, Cognitive Neuroscience, Developmental/Lifespan
Psychology, Learning/Comparative Psychology, Perception; Quantitative Psychology.
This appointment will need to be consistent with the teaching and research profile of the
School.
The School attracts excellent undergraduate and postgraduate students. Recent
retirements, new appointments and strong enrolments have provided the opportunity to
review and refine the School’s staffing profile, curriculum and research directions. In
addition, renovation and extension of the School’s laboratories should be completed by
early in 2006. These developments provide an unusual opportunity for a new senior
appointee to influence the development of psychological research and teaching at the
University of Sydney. There are excellent opportunities to develop collaborations with
other staff in the above areas, as well as in health psychology, social psychology,
individual differences, clinical psychology and neuropsychology. The appointee will be
expected to sustain an active research program and to contribute to teaching psychology
at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
The essential criteria for the position are: a PhD in psychology; an outstanding record of
research achievement in at least one of the areas designated for this appointment; a strong
track record in attracting external research funding; demonstrated skill in undergraduate
teaching; supervision to completion of several high quality PhD projects in psychology;
excellent communication skills; proven ability to work as a team member; and eligibility
for Australian Psychological Society membership.
The position is full-time continuing, subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation
and/or confirmation period for new appointees. Membership of a University approved
superannuation scheme is a condition of employment for new appointees. For further

Remuneration package: $107,974 - $118,843 p.a. (which includes a base salary
Associate Professor Level D $91,363 - $100,652 p.a., leave loading and up to 17%
employer’s contribution to superannuation)
