“Defining Moments in Canadian History”
Task:




Alone you are to create a Canadian history magazine called, “Defining Moments
in Canadian History”.
It will look like a “Top 5” list/compilation
You are to choose defining moments in Canadian history that helped to shape
Canadian/Canada’s identity – look for the most prominent ones, the ones you
feel really made an impact on shaping who we are as a country.
It will be in the form of a “Top 5” magazine
Outline:
Part 1: You must have a TITLE PAGE/FRONT PAGE to your magazine. (Includes
title of magazine, front picture and a small blurb explaining that this magazine
will be a top ten of Canada’s greatest historical events)
Part 2: You must have an INTRODUCTION – 1 paragraph (approx. 6 – 8
sentences long). (This intro should explain what this magazine is about)
Part 3: Each defining moment will be double sided:
- on the first side, you should have a TITLE for your defining moment with
pictures/graphics to go along with it.
- on the other side of the page, a 1 page, two paragraphed TYPED
explanation (double spaced)
Paragraph 1: Summary of the event
Paragraph 2: Explanation of why this
particular event/person was chosen as
part of your “Top 5” list…
Part 4: QUESTION to be answered for paragraph 2: “How does this
event/person help to shape Canadian/Canada’s identity and why?”
