SAINTS THIS WEEK
Our Lady of Perpetual Help: this is one of the most
popular representations of Our Lady. The picture was
brought to Rome at the end of the 15th century. It was
venerated there for 300 years, but the church was
destroyed and the picture was lost until 1865. When
the Diocese was created in 1878, Our Lady, under this
title, was declared Principal Patron.
St. Irenaeus: born around 130, he became bishop of
Lyons (France); his writing and preaching was mainly
directed against Gnosticism, emphasising that God
wished all to be saved and is freely revealed in Jesus his
Son. He was martyred around the year 200.
CATHEDRAL NOVENA: Our annual Novena to
Our Lady of Perpetual Help concludes on Tuesday,
27th June; the Feast of Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
The Novena takes place after evening Mass at 6.00 p.m.
Monday & Tuesday in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel in
Cathedral Hall and immediately after the evening
Masses on Saturday and Sunday at Holy Trinity, Boar
Lane. Please put thanks and intercessions/petitions in
the Novena box in Cathedral Hall.
MASS INTENTIONS RECEIVED: Lily Blackburn
(2), Sean Browne (LD), Nuel Correia (LD), Patrick
Delli Colli, Cheryl Flagherty, Mary & Philip Gavan,
Hamilton Gottardell, Sheila Kelly (LD) (4), Thomas
McAleer (4), Maureen McDonagh (LD), Patrick
Geraghty, Francisco Stratta (LD), Paddy Togher (LD),
Maura Togher & Family.
GOLDEN JUBILEE: Mgr. Peter McGuire will be
celebrating his Golden Jubilee later this year. A special
Mass will be celebrated at his present parish (Holy
Name Church, Otley Old Road, Leeds 16) on Friday,
7th July at 7.00 p.m. when all are invited. Please note
that there will be no spare parking available at the
church.
BAPTISM: Welcome to baby Gemily Claire Veraque
who was baptised at the Cathedral on 17th June and to
baby Mollie Cecilia Elizabeth Foster who was baptised
on 18th June. Please keep Gemily, Mollie and their
families in your prayers.
COFFEE/TEA: will be served today after the 11.30
a.m. Mass in Holy Trinity’s adjoining café.
WELCOME: We welcome Richard Watts into full
communion with the Catholic Church on Monday, 26th
June at the 5.30 p.m. Mass. May he know always the
peace and joy of the risen Lord.
CONFESSIONS: Please note that there will be no
lunchtime confessions on Tuesday this week, 27th
June.
LOURDES PILGRIMAGE The Bishop will lead
the Annual Diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes from 4th to
10th July. Please remember all our pilgrims in your
prayers, especially the sick. In Lourdes they will pray
for all of us.
8.00 A.M. WEEKDAY MASS: This Mass will
continue throughout June but will be cancelled from 3rd
July for the summer months until further notice.
SUNDAY EVENING MASS: We asked at this
Mass a couple of weeks ago if you would prefer the
time of Mass to be changed to an earlier time. The
vast majority that expressed an opinion said they would
like an earlier Mass on a Sunday evening and 6.00 p.m.
seemed the most popular time. Please let the priest
know this Sunday and next week your views on
changing the time to 6.00 p.m. and then we will
announce the decision in July for the change to take
place at the beginning of August.
STRAWBERRY FAYRE: Next Saturday, 1st July,
2.00-4.00 p.m. at Mount St. Joseph’s Home, Shire Oak
Road, Headingley, Leeds 6 (tel: 0113 278 4101). All
proceeds will go to the Little Sisters of the Poor.
Please give the community your support if you are able.
