Description of the Property: Briefly describe the property, its historic and natural features, and the
characteristics that qualify the property as a place where preservation matters.
Significance: Explain why the property is important to preserve. Is the property associated with important
people or events that shaped Rhode Island? Is the property important because of a tradition of community
use and enjoyment? What is special about the place that makes it worthy of preservation?
Goals: What are the long-term goals for this property? Define preservation success – how will we know
when we are successful? Are there measures of success in addition to securing the physical preservation of
the place (such as education, catalyzing community conversations, etc)?
Threat/Opportunity: Describe the current condition/status of the property. Why do you consider the
property to be threatened? Be specific about impending threats. Is there currently a timely opportunity to
advance the preservation of the place?
Timeliness: Why should this property be listed on the Rhode Island Preservation Watch now? How will
listing change/improve the status/condition of the property? What is the time frame for decision making to
preserve or not preserve this property?
Advocates: Who is leading the preservation effort? What organizations or individuals are already on
board or need to be brought on board to advance preservation? Are their individuals or groups who are
actively opposing or undermining the preservation effort?
Constituencies: Do you have the support of community or other interest groups? Who are the constituents

Submission & Review Process
Proposals may be submitted at any time and will be reviewed at the next available Program Committee
meeting. The Program Committee will review proposals in conjunction with the listing criteria and
guidelines. Preserve Rhode Island staff will respond to proposals within two weeks of review. Preserve
Rhode Island may require additional information at the request of the Program Committee.
