Student Prerequisites
A basic liquid chromatography course such as H1186A, Techniques of HPLC, is required. One month
experience on the instrument is desirable. Profile: An analyst or chemist who has responsibility for operation
and maintenance of the Agilent Technologies 1100/1200 Series HPLC for routine and non-routine samples. A
fundamental understanding of high performance liquid chromatography is expected.

Course Preparations
Instrumentation Guidelines

2 students per instrument and ChemStation

Instruments can be 1100’s, 1200’s, or 1200 SL’s. Should be equipped with solvent
cabinet, vacuum degasser, pump (binary, binary SL or quaternary), autosampler or
high throughput autosampler, TCC, and DAD.

Appropriate Computer with CD drive and printer. Floppy Disk and drive if possible.

Chemstation loaded with B.03 G2170AA and G2180AA software
License #’s 2170 – TL04041172

Provide students with administrator log in and password. Lab indicates password is:
Agilent.

Load course data files and methods into appropriate folders. Do not delete Demo
files.

High resolution LCD Projector capable of handling 1280 x 1024 resolution.

Printed student lecture and lab manual per student.

White board and markers for instructor.

Instructor requires laptop for lectures.

Samples
Four vials are required to complete this course.
Use isocratic test mix part number 01080-68704.
For the high standard: dilute 1 mL of test mix to 10 mL
For medium standard: dilute 3 mL of high standard to 10 mL
For low standard: dilute 1 mL of high standard to 10 mL
For Sample: dilute 5 mL of high standard to 10 mL
Distribute the above into autosampler vials for each instrument. Label the vials:
