Enterprise Vault: Status and Demonstration Brent Gilmore reported on the upgrade of EV to version 7, which is providing more flexibility and ease of use than the previous version. Brent indicated that a test group will be migrated from within CTS in early August, with the remainder of CTS personnel migrated over the following weeks. At the next EM User Group meeting, participants will be invited to test EV. The EM team will seek feedback from those who test EV. Leslie Whitmore and Maryam Sharifzad conducted a live demonstration of EV features and functionality, and took questions from the meeting attendees. Leslie is developing a training module for use in migrating department users to EV. Brent pointed out that, when EV becomes generally available, EM users with large mailboxes will be given the option to reduce their EM storage to reasonable levels or to archive their files in EV. In response to some questions, Brent mentioned that Globanet, the EV consulting firm, has provided excellent support and can provide information on options within EV. MAC/Safari is still to be tested, and more information will be forthcoming. EV v.7 is compatible with Exchange 2007. 2. Status Updates a. New Dedicated EM Network Brent reported that EM systems have been migrated to the new, dedicated network, which is expected to provide more reliability to EM. b. Additional Cluster Nodes On-Line Brent reported that a new clustered server, EM3, has been put online in production mode. Additional capacity is now available to accommodate upcoming migrations and better balance system load. c. SAN Expansion Brent reported that the SAN has been expanded to accommodate the additional new EM servers. Additional SAN capacity is being added to handle the upcoming enhancements to Bruin OnLine and expansion of EM services. Diane Blake Bentley 1 2/12/2016 UCLA Enterprise Messaging __________________________________________________________________ d. EM Health Check in September Microsoft will conduct a security health check and also check the health of the SAN during an engagement in September. 3. iPhone In response to a question about the potential for integration of iPhone with EM, Brent indicated that testing is underway but plans for iPhone support are still unclear. He suggested that, while EM will do its best to support iPhones, it is unlikely in the near future to provide the level of support provided to BlackBerry and Treo devices. The iPhone can only be billed directly to an end user and cannot be provisioned as a direct bill to UCLA. The iPhone does not support and OTA (over-the-air) synchronization of calendars or contacts, but it does have support for IMAP and POP. 4. Department Issues LSSA: Jonathan Rodgers asked about quota issues that occurred last week for some of his users. Jason Zhu responded that LSSA shares its mail store with some other groups, and there was a lag in applying the quota exception for LSSA users. Library/Nursing: Mary Hampton reported that the User-Managed Barracuda seemed not to be catching obvious spam. Scott Dicks reported similar problems for his users. Jason committed to look at the Barracuda system to verify that the settings are in place. Joshua Stageberg indicated that he had seen lots of spam PDFs coming through his separate Barracuda system. LSSA: Jonathan reported that his users were getting false positives from the ProofPoint spam system, and that they were happening two times to these messages. Kyle Fung indicated that this resulted from the architecture and internal mail routing. When an LSSA user forwards their @ucla.edu to EM, it gets routed through the BOL accounts and then through Proofpoint. When a false positive is identified and the message is released, it once again passes through the Proofpoint and is detected again as a false positive. If the end user will whitelist the sender using the digest, wait a few minutes, and then release the item. It will pass through the Proofpoint again, but this time the new whitelist rule will let it through. For more information, contact the EM help desk. 5. Announcement Brent announced that he will leave UCLA to take a position at another institution. His last day will be July 20. He expressed his pleasure in working with everyone at UCLA during his years here. 6.
