KOREAN STUDENTS ASSOCIATION OF COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY CONSTITUTION ARTICLE I. NAME AND OBJECT Section 1. The name of this association is Korean Student Association of Columbia University Section 2. The object of this association is a) To promote the common interest of the members; b) To demonstrate collectively the interests of the members toward the Columbia University and the community; c) To promote a better understanding about Korea and Korean culture within the University and the community; d) To help new members adjust to the University life; e) To promote the relationship between the present and past members of the Association Section 3. The Activities of the Association shall be those appropriate to the accomplishment of the object of the Association ARTICLE II. MEMBERSHIP Section 1. Regular membership of the Association shall be open to all Columbia University affiliated students. Section 2. All members have the right to vote. Section 3. Only regular members shall be eligible for elected offices of the Association. ARTICLE III. ORGANIZATION Section 1. The Association shall have the following officers: a President, a Vice-President, a Treasurer, a Secretary, and others. Section 2. President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary shall be elected by direct and secret ballots in a duly convened General Meeting. Section 3. Any regular member in good standing may be nominated from the floor, provided that the nomination is seconded by at least one (1) other member. A nominee shall be elected to the office upon receiving a simple majority of the members present and voting. Section 4. No person may be re-elected as President. Section 5. All officers shall form the Executive Board, which shall make day-to-day decisions, publish the directory of the members at least one (1) time per academic semester, and report the finance and activities to the General Meeting. Section 6. Special committees may be formed by the decision of the Executive Board to accomplish specifically assigned activities. The members of the special committees shall be appointed by the Executive Board. Section 7. The duties of the officers are as follows: a) The President shall represent the Association, shall preside at all meetings, and shall perform all such duties as are incidental to his office and properly required of him. b) The Vice-President shall assist the President, shall attend all meetings, and shall perform all such duties as are assigned by the decision of the Executive Board and incidental to the office c) The Secretary shall have charge of all papers, records, and the correspondence of the Association. d) the Treasurer shall have charge of the finance of the Association, make authorized expenditures, keep account, and present regular accounting to the Executive Board. e) The other officers shall perform all such duties as are properly required of them. Section 8. In the absence of the President, the Vice-President shall assume the duties (but not the office) of the President. In the absence of both the President and the Vice-President for Graduates, the most recently retired President shall assume the duties (but not the office) of the President. Section 9. The terms of office of all officers shall be one (1) year from the day of the election of the year they are elected. ARTICLE IV. MEETING Section 1. A General Meeting shall be convened by the President Section 2. In the General Meeting, election for the offices, amendments to the Constitution, approval of the report on activities and finances submitted by the Executive Board, and decisions on other general matters shall be made. Section 3. A Special Meeting, which assumes all the authorities and functions of the General Meeting, may be convened by the President upon the decision of the Executive Board. Section 4. Due notice of each Meeting shall be given to all members at least one (1) week prior to convening of the Meeting except for amendments to the Constitution. Section 5. At any session of a duly convened Meeting the members present shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business. Section 6. All decisions, except on amendments to the Constitutions, shall be approved by a simple majority of the members present and voting. Section 7. Robert’s Rule of Order shall govern all procedural matters not convened by this Constitution. Article V. AMENDMENT Section 1. A written proposal for amending the Constitution shall be submitted to the Executive Board by a group of more than five (5) regular members. Section 2. Within one (1) month after receiving the proposal for amendment, the President shall convene a Meeting with at least two (2) weeks’ notice of the proposal and the meeting to all members of the Association. Section 3. A two-third (2/3) majority of the members present in a duly convened Meeting will pass the amendment. Section 4. The amended Constitution shall take effect at the moment of its approval Section 5. The newly authorized Constitution shall be reported in written form to all members of the Association within one (1) month after it is approved.
