computer networks for increased access to career and economic
opportunities in communities around the world. Theodore's Networking
Academy provides online courses, interactive tools, and hands-on
learning activities to help students prepare for computer and networking

What parents need
to know
Make sure your
child attends school
regularly.
Attendance is
important for
schools – for
example, when
they give
standardized tests
required by federal
law. But it’s even
more important for
your child. He or
she has to be in
school to take
advantage of all
the opportunities
education has to
offer.
The dangers of
truancy
An unexcused
absence from
school is called
truancy. This
includes skipping
classes or entire
days of school.
Truancy puts
students at risk for
many problems,
including:
Building-Based Student Supports School Team
Theodore High School’s Building Based Student Support Team (BBSST) is a school-based, problem solving
group. Team members discuss issues related to specific needs of teachers and students and offer teachers
assistance in resolving problems of our regular education students. The team is composed of regular and
special education teachers, administrators, counselors and other individuals as needed, including, but not
limited to, attendance officers and representatives from Nursing Services. Through collaboration, teachers
are given the opportunity to address concerns and find solutions with greater perspective.
2008-09 Committee Members:
Tyler Mims - Facilitator
Ms. Ernestine Chaney
Mr. David Hewes
Ms. Jamie Jones
Ms. Jennifer Girod
Ms. Kathleen Jackson
Mr. Michael Walters

poor grades
Mr. Randy Larson



Alcohol or
other drug
use
Questions regarding BBSST assistance should be directed to Ms. Marino; she will forward messages to the
committee. You can reach Ms. Marino at 221-3351 Ext. 71518.
Truancy also
increases the risk
that students will
drop out.
And high school
dropouts are more
likely to
Be unemployed
Earn less money
than high school
and college
graduates
Be dependent on
public assistance
The Alabama High School Graduation Exam will be given March 1-5. 2010. The schedule for the week will
be as follows:
Monday................... Mathematics
Tuesday.................. Reading
Wednesday..............Language
Thursday................. Social Studies
Serve time in
prison
Friday...................... Science
Make sure your
child goes to
school. His or her
future depends on
it.
