What parents need to know Make sure your child attends school regularly. Attendance is important for schools – for example, when they give standardized tests required by federal law. But it’s even more important for your child. He or she has to be in school to take advantage of all the opportunities education has to offer. The dangers of truancy An unexcused absence from school is called truancy. This includes skipping classes or entire days of school. Truancy puts students at risk for many problems, including: Building-Based Student Supports School Team Theodore High School’s Building Based Student Support Team (BBSST) is a school-based, problem solving group. Through collaboration, teachers are given the opportunity to address concerns and find solutions with greater perspective. 2008-09 Committee Members: Tyler Mims - Facilitator Ms. Ernestine Chaney Mr. David Hewes Ms. Jamie Jones Ms. Jennifer Girod Ms. Kathleen Jackson Mr. Michael Walters poor grades Mr. Randy Larson teen pregnancy Andrea Dennis Alcohol or other drug use Questions regarding BBSST assistance should be directed to Ms. Marino; she will forward messages to the committee.
