Residential artists’ studio at Cape Cornwall
Brisons Veor is managed by a Charitable Trust set up in 1992 to help practitioners in the arts
with limited income to pursue their creative activities. It’s available through an application
process year-round for self-funded residencies at affordable rates for periods of up to four
weeks. The schedule for the following year (January to December) is agreed in September.
Accommodation
Brisons Veor is a cottage on a cliffside at the tip of Cape Cornwall, and is believed to be the
westernmost dwelling on the English mainland. The property is fully furnished with
accommodation for up to four people (or six for group work). There is a large studio/living
room on the first floor with a double sofa bed. A sliding door leads to a small well-equipped
kitchen with electric cooker, microwave and fridge/freezer. On the ground floor is a second
smaller studio room, two bedrooms (one with two single beds and one with a double), a
bathroom, and additional separate wc and basin. Heating is by electrical storage radiators.
Outside, a small garden area faces south to Land’s End and south west to the Brisons, two
rocks about a mile offshore. Brisons Veor has no landline telephone connection, but mobile
reception is good for most providers. There is a radio/CD player with a collection of classical
and popular CDs, and a small TV monitor/DVD player for films (no TV reception). Visitors
are asked to bring their own duvet covers, sheets, pillowcases and personal towels.
Location
Brisons Veor has private access and parking for vehicles. It is situated about a mile and a
half (20 minute walk) from St Just and the nearest shops, and seven miles to Penzance.
Trains run to Penzance, and there are bus services between Penzance, St Just, and St Ives.
