Tim is trying to convince his son to let go of his dream of becoming a famous jazz saxophonist. Upset with his father for meddling in his life, Jeff storms off down the street. Scene ii) Tim goes inside the house to join Kathleen in the kitchen. As Kathleen prepares dinner, they discuss their son’s future. Jacqueline, their guest, arrives and they all reminisce about their youth. Scene iii) Later in the evening, Jeff and Constance arrive at the house. Jeff takes his saxophone out of its case and begins playing a quiet melody as Constance listens. After he is finished, Jeff explains his dreams to Constance.
