T E L C The English Language Centre Student Regulations and Code of Conduct Full-time students Tier 4 students and visa requirements The school is approved by the UKBA as a Highly Trusted Sponsor for full-time overseas students. All students with a Tier 4 study visa must attend a minimum of 15 hours per week during the day, with 32 weeks attendance in one academic year. Please read and sign the Full-time Student Agreement. For detailed information on visa regulations from the United Kingdom Border Agency please look at the website: www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk. When you start your course, you will be given further information regarding full-time studies. The school will monitor your attendance and will notify the United Kingdom Border Agency if you do not fulfil the requirements of your visa. The school is also approved to sponsor students on a Student Visitor visa for 6 months study period, and an Extended Student Visitor visa for a maximum of 11 months. Part-time students After an initial assessment of language skills, each student chooses how many classes he/she needs each week. Each class lasts 2 hours. Part-time students can attend day or evening classes. All students must buy the course book and workbook. If you cannot attend regularly, you can study at home and check what you may have missed in class. Student code of conduct 1. Students are expected to respect and observe the rules of the school. 2. Students should behave in an orderly manner in their academic and recreational activities while they attend the school or are resident in homestay accommodation. 3. Students should respect the rights and privacy of members of staff and other students at all times. Abusive behaviour and bullying Abusive behaviour and bullying will not be tolerated within the school. This includes: shouting pushing bullying (hurting physically or mentally) upsetting behaviour If you are the victim of abusive behaviour or bullying you should tell the School Principal as soon as possible. The School Principal will investigate any example of abusive behaviour or bullying and will take appropriate action against the person responsible. In the case of students this will be dealt with under the student disciplinary procedure. Nick116100721 T E L C School rules NOISE: Students are asked to be aware of other people in the building and not cause a disturbance to those working on the Ground Floor. FOOD AND DRINK: The kitchen is shared between the school and the Therapy Centre, and should be left clean and tidy at all times. Always wash up cups and dishes that you have used. Only eat in the classrooms before or after a class, not during. You are welcome to take your drinks with you during a class. PLEASE PUT ALL PLASTIC BOTTLES IN RECYCLING BIN (kitchen) MOBILES: Mobiles must be on silent during the class and if you are waiting for an urgent call, please inform the teacher at the beginning of the class. TOILETS: Please leave the toilet in a clean state, and never put used toilet paper in the waste bin. PAYMENT: part-time students should pay in the office before the class starts, in advance or on a pay-as-you-go basis. Full-time students will pay yearly or termly. (See Full-Time agreement) PUNCTUALITY: Make sure you arrive in time for your class. It is very disturbing for the other students and the teachers when a student is late. It may also be difficult for you to follow the teacher’s instructions if you miss part of the class. If you know in advance that you will be late, please inform the teacher or the office staff. BIKES: do not bring bikes into the school. Always lock bikes securely in the street but not on the plastic drainpipes which can be cut or broken. Use street lamps. FELLOW STUDENTS AND STAFF: please respect those studying and teaching around you and try not to cause any unnecessary disturbance. RESOURCES: if you want to use any resources (books/cassettes etc) in the school, outside class times, please talk to the teachers or Kate for permission. Do not remove resources from the school.
