For example: A common question asked is "Do you see a relationship coming up for me in the future, and if so, when?" After having the querent shuffle the deck, draw one card per month until you reach a card that might indicate a relationship. It could be The Lovers, the 2 of Cups, the 9 of Cups (often seen as the "wish card"), any of the Knights, the Ace of Cups, etc. Use your intuition and you'll know it when you see it. So if you were doing this reading now, the first card would represent September. If the 2 of Cups was the 5th card laid out, the chances would be best for a relationship in five months, or January. You can also look at the cards leading up to that time to see what kinds of things should be worked on in the meantime. I do not recommend going any further than one year into the future. It sometimes happens that none of the 12 cards laid out are appropriate. That could mean that either the event in question will not happen during the course of this year or that this is not the right time to ask. When this happens, take a look at the cards to shed light on what else is going on instead. These are methods that I have used successfully to give me a sense of timing. If you have found any other ways that you'd like to share, I'd love to hear from you -- if you have the time <G>. James Rioux, CPTR has also written an excellent article on timing which offers yet another method you might want to consider. You can read about it here: compiled by Leisa ReFalo 2007 2 Zodiac Spreads http://www.ata-tarot.com/resource/timing.html Year Overview January: July: February: August: March: September: April: October: May: November: June: December: compiled by Leisa ReFalo 2007 3 Zodiac Spreads Zodiac From Terri Paajanen http://paganwiccan.about.com/cs/tarotspreads/p/zodiac.htm This spread is based on the 12 houses of the Zodiac, and is an excellent choice for anyone studying astrology. The sign at the beginning of the first house tells us a lot about someone's personality, temperament and constitution. It typifies our immediate, instinctive reaction and shows how we present ourselves to the world. The planet ruling the ascendant sign is of particular importance for the interpretation. compiled by Leisa ReFalo 2007 9 Zodiac Spreads 2nd House – Values and Possessions The second house and its occupants tell us about the material circumstances, the acquisitive urge and how we deal with possessions and material means. This includes the relationship to our own body. 3rd House – Communication The third house and any planets occupying it tell us of our siblings, the manner in which we communicate on an everyday level and the relationships, which determine our daily life. 4th House – Roots and Origins This house describes our origins, the parental home and the circumstances influencing childhood and youth. It describes how we relate to “family”, our attitude towards “hearth and home”. The father image and the relationship to the real father are also to be found here. 5th House – Pleasure and Creativity Sexuality and eroticism are at home here, along with play in general and all types of creative expression. This house also describes how we relate to children, pleasure and simple fun. 6th House – Work and Routine The sixth house describes the circumstances surrounding us in our daily lives, including the work environment and daily routine. This includes our behavior towards subordinates. Bodily hygiene and care also belong here, as well as tendencies to certain acquired illnesses. 7th House – Relating The descendant sign and planets occupying the seventh house tell us about how we select our partners and describes the partnerships and relationships we seek. Often we are involuntarily attracted to people whose horoscopes carry a strong emphasis of the sign in our seventh house. compiled by Leisa ReFalo 2007 10 Zodiac Spreads 8th House – Loss and Common Property The eighth house shows how we relate to communal goods and how we deal with material loss. The taxes levied on us each year are a good example for this and show how closely related these areas are. Traditional astrology maintains that this house has an affinity to death and all things metaphysical. Death would then be the ultimate material loss. Amongst other things, the study of metaphysics can be a very differentiated way of dealing with this loss, which inevitably comes to us all. 9th House – Philosophies and Far Countries The ninth house describes our spiritual leaning, life philosophy and our worldview. In fact, these are often influenced by journeys to foreign countries. The attitudes cultivated and formed in this house can greatly influence matters of the 10th. (see below) 10th House (MC) – Occupation and Calling This house is of particular importance, since it affects not only our choice of profession and our sense of calling - it also has a bearing on our general development, what we become. This continues throughout our lives. According to tradition, as well as more recent experience, this house describes the mother image and the relationship to the real mother. 11th House – Friends and Acquaintances The eleventh house describes how we relate to friends, benefactors and teachers people who wish us well or from whom we can learn. It also shows us in these roles. This house shows how we relate to the society in which we live. 12th House – Beyond the Personal This house represents those spheres of life in which the individual no longer plays a part, where we step back for a greater whole or lose ourselves in one. Traditional astrology sees hospitals, prisons and psychiatric institutions in this house. It is also associated with monasteries and any other retreats. (NOTE: This is just a brief version of what each house stands for, you can do further study of them and enhance the qualities of your reading) compiled by Leisa ReFalo 2007 11 Zodiac Spreads Now once you know about the houses, the readings are simple. Cards 1-12 represent what the querent (Person A) possesses in each area of his life, where as cards 13-24 represents the effect of Person B in those particular aspects of the Querent’s Life. Example: Lets say, in the 10th house of Occupation, in the position of "Card 10" the querent has the card of the "Fool", it can show tendencies of him/her being a risk-taker, as well as, heading towards a major change of occupations. Now in the position of "Card 22" the querent's partner (Person B) has the card, the Ace of Swords; it shows that Person B shall always protect the Querent, as well as, be a big support. However, Person A should always discuss things before hand with Person B so that they both can work towards reaching the best alternatives. It may seem a bit too massive a spread, but with time and practice it really gives results. Do give it a try, however, if you wish to post it elsewhere or use it as a reference, do let me know before you do so. Also, do read up a little more about astrological houses and planets within them to enhance your readings. Do let me know what you all think of it, and let me know your experiences with it as well as if you face any doubts. compiled by Leisa ReFalo 2007 12 Zodiac Spreads The House of Hierophant Spread http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=65911 (This spread is from an article by Elizabeth Hazel titled "Chiron as Hierophant" found at ATA Quarterly. I have moved a few sentences around and removed a sentence or two. It is basically a version of the 12 houses of the zodiac spreads out there.) This spread was inspired by the Mythic Tarot, and honors the mathematical and astrological skills of Chiron. Use the Mythic Tarot if you have this deck. The House of the Hierophant spread is useful when the querent is experiencing struggles in expressing their spiritual nature, or if past wounds are causing problems in the present. Begin by removing The Hierophant (Chiron) card from the deck. This leaves seventy-seven cards in the deck. Shuffle the deck, and deal seven cards in a row, left to right. Continue to deal the remainder of the deck into these seven piles. When finished, there will be seven piles with eleven cards in each pile. Take the seventh pile and discard the other piles. In numerology, the numbers Seven and Eleven are associated with tests of mastery and spiritual growth. Add the Hierophant card to the seventh pile, and shuffle. When the pile has been thoroughly mixed, spread the cards face-up into a 12-house arrangement. Note the house position where the Hierophant card appears. This position indicates the area of life where past wounds require healing and spiritual solace: First House - The ego, persona or physical body Second House – Self worth, ability to earn sufficiently and retain personal property Third House – Siblings, ability to communicate and transmit plans and needs Fourth House – Family relationships, life or death issues, the home Fifth House – Love affairs, children, creative abilities, and inspiration Sixth House – The work environment, co-workers, over-all health conditions compiled by Leisa ReFalo 2007 13 Zodiac Spreads Seventh House – Relationships, marriage, business partnerships, legal agreements Eighth House – Shared wealth, family structure, the cohesive fabric of life Ninth House – Higher education, religious and spiritual views, long-term plans Tenth House – Career direction and life path; authority figures Eleventh House – Results of effort, hopes for future, friends and associates Twelfth House – Hidden karma, family obligations, ability to find pleasure in life Compare the Hierophant’s house location to houses in the same axis. The other 3 cards in the Hierophant’s axis show elements of the struggle to heal and transform. If the Hierophant appears in an angular house (1st, 4th, 7th, and 10th), the challenge will focus on initiating new circumstances for one’s life, and the management of family and personal relationships. If it falls into a succedent house (2nd, 5th, 8th, and 11th), the lessons will center on learning to establish and maintain various areas of life, while having a realistic notion of when to release the obsolete. If the Hierophant is placed in a cadent house (3rd, 6th, 9th, and 12th), the lesson of Chiron will focus on adjusting to internal and external changes, developing personal beliefs, and applying the wisdom and compassion learned through one’s wounds. Compare the Hierophant to the other three cards in this axis. The card that sits in the house opposite of the Hierophant indicates what must be faced by examining the wound at the root of the conflict. The two other cards in the axis show the resources of higher awareness that facilitate the type of healing that must take place. These means should be rising within the querent’s consciousness – there might be a longing for the kinds of solutions suggested by these cards. Continue by analyzing the elemental house relationships. This three-card group will delineate skills the querent already possesses that will aid in the healing process, and these skills may be shared with others. If the Hierophant appears in one of the Fire houses (1st, 5th and 9th) wounds caused by painful separation may have produced new techniques for relating to compiled by Leisa ReFalo 2007 14 Zodiac Spreads others, a deeper perspective of human nature, educational excellence and artistic skills. The ability to learn will take the querent beyond the constraints of their wound. If the Hierophant appears in an Earth house (2nd, 6th, and 10th) the querent has suffered from wounded sensibilities and a loss of self-worth. The cards in this trio will show if the querent has developed good common sense, and the ability to manage resources, time and energy. The querent will need to feel respected in their area of authority, and should be working hard toward their goals. Their achievements may provide a source of stability and protection for others. In an Air house (3rd, 7th, and 11th) the querent’s wounds may have restricted their outlets for expression, or their willingness to confide their hopes to others. Their coping skills may include alternate forms of communication, and the capacity to work toward larger goals through successive small steps. They may be able to increase the understanding and awareness of their specialty area, and share this broadened perspective with others. The Water houses (4th, 8th, and 12th) are in some ways the most difficult of houses, yet should the Hierophant appear in one of these houses, the compensatory gifts may be the most spiritual and easily shared with others. These are the houses that signify wounded emotions, primarily through family sorrows, but the bigger issue may involve karmic debts from prior incarnations. These houses share the universal experiences of birth, death, and wrenching transitions. The skills developed will include intuitive abilities, and a heightened sense of compassion and comforting. The greatest healing for these individuals is to be able to learn to love again, without bitterness or hard-heartedness. 1st House of Self Aries Emperor I am March 21 2nd House of Possessions Taurus Hierophant I build April 20 3rd House of Communication Gemini Lovers I think May 22 compiled by Leisa ReFalo 2007 15 Zodiac Spreads 4th House of Family & Home Cancer Chariot I feel June 22 5TH House of Pleasure Leo Strength I will July 23 6th House of Health Virgo Hermit I analyze August 23 7th House of Partnership Libra Justice I balance September 23 8th House of Sex Scorpio Death I change October 23 9th House of Philosophy Sagittarius Temperance I seek November 22 10th House of Social Status Capricorn Devil I organize December 22 11th House of Friendships Aquarius Star I solve January 20 12th House of Subconscious Pisces Moon I believe February 19 compiled by Leisa ReFalo 2007 16 Zodiac Spreads Second Operation: Representing The Development Of The Matter The Complete Golden Dawn System Of Magic By Israel Regardie The Enquirer again carefully shuffles the cards, and places the Pack on the table face downwards, but he is not to cut them. The Diviner now takes the Pack and deals it round card by card in 12 Packets face downwards in rotation as in the following diagram: (Deal and read in order of Houses against the direction of the Sun.) So that the first packet answering to the Ascendant will consist of the 1st, 13th, 25th, 37th, 49th, 61st, 73rd cards as shown, and so on. This Operation is under the presidency of the Court Cards, whose dominion in the Celestial Heavens falls immediately between that of the 4 Knaves and that of the Keys answering to the 12 Signs of the Zodiac. It represents the 12 Astrological Houses of Heaven, as shown. Without altering the relative order of the packets, or of the cards in the packets, the Diviner examines each in succession, till he finds the one which contains the Significator. compiled by Leisa ReFalo 2007 17 Zodiac Spreads This he retains for reading, noting carefully to which astrological house it corresponds and gathers up the other packets, and puts them aside, as they are not of any further use in this operation. As before, the Diviner reads the packet containing the Significator, by spreading them out in the form of a horseshoe, first reading by counting the cards in order from the Significator in the direction in which the face of the figure on the card is turned, and next by pairing the cards together from the opposite ends of the horseshoe. It is hardly likely that in so small a packet there will be either 3 or 4 cards of a sort, but if there be, the Diviner takes We will suppose the Enquirer to have duly and carefully shuffled the Cards, thinking of his affairs, and that the Diviner has dealt them round into 12 packets as above shown. The packet containing the Significator is located in the Ascendant, and it contains the following cards in the order given. This mode of reading shows that as the Significator is in the Ascendant it will principally relate to the Enquirer's manner of living at this point. The Significator is in this case right side up, whereas in the previous reading it was inverted and is looking towards the 9 of Swords, which direction therefore the reading proceeds, counting thus: 4 from King of Cups - Knave of Pentacles; 7 from this - Sun; 9 from this; Knave of Pentacles; 7 from this - Sun; where the reading ends. King of Cups - Knave of Pentacles "The enquirer is unhappy" (looking to 9 of Swords) "and makes the acquaintance of the girl with the dark hair and blue eyes with whom the dark young man (his rival) is in love. (She is artistic and well-mannered; and hopes to carry out her wishes, i.e., to marry the dark man with whom the fair girl, to whom the Enquirer has transferred his affection, is now in love.) For she is beginning to be apprehensive regarding her success, and is jealous in consequence." Pairing the cards from opposite ends of the horseshoe the Diviner proceeds: compiled by Leisa ReFalo 2007 18 Zodiac Spreads King of Cups - 9 of Swords "The Enquirer is anxious, and his health begins to suffer. 8 of Pentacles - Sun "But hopes ultimately to succeed through skillful action in the matter. 4 of Swords - Knave of Pentacles "He therefore endeavors to make a friend of the dark girl." Temperance "As he expects to realize his wishes by her means in the end." (This is shown by the card being single in the end.) note of the same, and also observes which suit predominates. I now continue the examples commenced in the previous operation. I must here observe that the example is purely of my own invention, and of course is not contained in the Book T, wherein only the mode of working is given. I have purposely taken a commonplace, trivial, and material question for elucidation. compiled by Leisa ReFalo 2007 19 Zodiac Spreads How, What, Why Zodiac # Trump How/Why Aries 4 Emperor Courageous Taurus 5 Hierophant Peaceful # Gemini 6 Lovers Inquisitive $ Cancer 7 Chariot Nurturing % Leo 8 Strength Expressive ^ Virgo 9 Hermit Perfected & Libra 11 Justice Equalized * Scorpio 13 Death Instinctive ( Sagittarius 14 Temperance Expansive ) Capricorn 15 Devil Ambitious _ Aquarius 17 Star Uncompromising + Pisces 18 Moon Transcendent !
