This should be considered a general guide for applicants. It is important that an applicant
considering preprofessional school consult with his or her prehealth advisor to devise a
schedule that works for the individual.
COLLEGE YEAR 1

FALL




WINTER/SPRING




Gather information about the health profession of your interest -see your advisor, contact specific
schools for information & utilize the Internet for information.
Meet prehealth advisor and investigate prehealth advisory program
Successfully complete required prehealth coursework and other degree requirements
Continue gathering information about the your health profession of interest
Identify summer employment/volunteer field related opportunities
Successfully complete required prehealth course work and other degree requirements
SUMMER
 Complete summer paid/volunteer field related experience
 Attend summer school, if necessary
COLLEGE YEAR 2

FALL




WINTER/SPRING





Check in with prehealth advisor and participate in prehealth activities
Investigate available volunteer/paid field related clinical or research activities
Successfully complete required prehealth coursework and other degree requirements
Check in with prehealth advisor and participate in prehealth activities
Participate in volunteer/paid field related clinical or research activities
Identify summer employment/volunteer field related opportunities
Successfully complete required prehealth course work and other degree requirements
SUMMER

Complete summer paid/volunteer field related experience
Participate in a summer health careers program, if available
Begin drafting your personal statement
Attend summer school, if necessary
COLLEGE YEAR 3

FALL







Check in with prehealth advisor and participate in prehealth activities
Continue participation in volunteer/paid field related activities
Continue revising your personal statement
Investigate:
o Admission Test
o Schools of interest
Register for admission test and begin preparation for the test
Beginning thinking about letters of recommendation and possible evaluators.
Successfully complete required prehealth coursework and other degree requirements

WINTER/SPRING








Consult regularly with prehealth advisor regarding:
o Schedule for completion of school-specific requirements
o Advice about field educational options
Continue revising your personal statement until it is in final form. Review it with advisor.
Download Evaluation Request Forms and give them to your evaluators along with your personal
statement and resume.
Continue participation in volunteer/paid field related activities
Continue preparation for admission test
Take Admission Test in the Spring
Successfully complete required prehealth coursework and other degree requirements
SUMMER




Participate in a summer health careers program, if available
Complete appropriate application
Take Admission Test, if necessary
Attend summer school, if necessary


FALL

Complete supplementary application materials for schools applied to
Consult regularly with prehealth advisor regarding:
o Completion of school-specific requirements
o Status of application/admission process at preprofessional schools applied to
Continue participation in volunteer/paid field related activities
Interview at preprofessional schools
Continue review of educational options in field of interest
Investigate:
o Financial aid planning
o Financial aid forms required by school of interest
Successfully complete elective science and non-science coursework and other degree requirements
Make interim and final decisions about preprofessional school choice
Immediately notify preprofessional schools that you will not be attending
Successfully complete elective science and non-science coursework and other degree requirements
Graduate
