The award not only has prestige but plenty of other perks. Our current program supports 7 college students. To qualify for a Mission scholarship one must be able to document a significant disability, score of 18 or better on the A.C.T or 870 on S.A.T., be enrolled in a four-year study program (under-graduate only) working toward a baccalaureate degree and provide proof of enrollment. Upon acceptance to our program, recipients agree to provide proof of full-time enrollment each semester, submit grades, maintain a GPA of 2.3 and write an "update letter" providing the Mission with information pertaining to grades, struggles, triumphs, campus life and a general "how are you doing" letter. The program offers unmatched experience. You'll complete work sessions during each summer break, increasing your knowledge and job responsibilities while assisting intelligence professionals and applying your academic skills. Once selected, recipients will be given an annual salary; a benefits package that includes health insurance, life insurance, and retirement; and up to $18,000 per calendar year for tuition, mandatory fees, books and supplies. They will be required to work at an Agency facility during summer breaks and to maintain full-time college status during the school year with a minimum cumulative 3.0/4.0 GPA. To promote this goal, the foundation has established a Science Student Grant Fund, available to fourth year undergraduate (who have been accepted to graduate or professional school) and graduate students who have a disability. The students must be United States citizens. Awards of $1000 each will be made to college or university students for some special purpose in connection with a science project or thesis in any field of Mathematics, Science, Medicine, Engineering, or Computer Science. Deadline: January 13, 2010 Scholarship Lists for Students with Disabilities 12 John Weir Scholarship The Ann Arbor Center for Independent Living is now accepting applications from graduating high school seniors living or going to school in Washtenaw, Livingston and Monroe Counties for its John Weir Scholarship. The scholarship is open to seniors with all types of disabilities, including learning, cognitive, developmental, physical, visual, and hearing disabilities, as well as autism/Asperger’s, mental health and chronic health conditions, such as cancer. The scholarship is for those going to a two- or four-year college or a trade school after high school. The winner gets a $500 scholarship (with the possibility of an addition $500 for the following three years of college) and becomes the CIL’s youth spokesperson. Jenkins Pre-doctoral Fellowship Program (JPFP) This program increases the number of women, minorities, and persons with disabilities participating in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) workforce, thereby helping to eliminate the shortage of skilled workers in STEM-related disciplines. Annually, approximately 20 three-year fellowships are awarded to support graduate students in their pursuit of advanced degrees in the STEM disciplines. Minnie Pearl Scholarship Applicant must: Renewable scholarship for full-time college students with a severe to profound bilateral hearing loss. Chair Scholars Foundation Provides scholarships for college or vocational training to low-income students with severe physical disabilities - allowing them the opportunity to pursue their dreams. Any young person with a physical disability and a dream can apply for a scholarship. Based in Tampa, Florida with chapters in Sarasota and New York City, ChairScholars has two scholarship programs; the National Scholarship Program and the Florida Scholarship Program. National Scholarship Program provides eligible high school seniors and college freshmen up to $20,000 for tuition to attend the college or university of their choice. The student must be physically challenged and may be "chair-confined". The physical challenge must be significant. No minor disability will be considered. Must have verifiable unmet financial need. Deadline: February 22, 2010 Scholarship Lists for Students with Disabilities 21 Scholarships for Flight School Able Flight offers scholarships to support people with disabilities studying to get a Sport Flight Certificate. Anyone with a physical disability that significantly impairs function can apply. Able Flight has awarded scholarships to people who use wheelchairs due to spinal cord injury, people with a variety of congenital birth defects, and people who have lost limbs. There are three different types of scholarship: for people who have never piloted, for people who piloted before acquiring a disability, and for those who only wish to go through flight training. Our full scholarships cover flight and ground training, testing fees, study materials, lodging and travel to a flight school as required (some students can train near their homes). Scholarships do not include local transportation to and from the airport and meals while training. Recipients of full scholarships receive a complete ground school self-study package shortly after their selection. Deadline: April 17, 2010 National Multiple Sclerosis Society Scholarship Program The National Multiple Sclerosis Society and its associated state organizations offer scholarships to highly qualified students with multiple sclerosis. To assist people affected by MS, and their children, who are pursuing a post-secondary education, we provide scholarships to accredited educational programs. Awards are based on financial need, academic record and a personal essay. We believe strongly that MS should not stand in the way of an education. To be eligible, high school (or GED) graduates must be attending an accredited post secondary school for the first time (first semester). In 2009, the Mid-Atlantic Chapter funded $8000 in scholarships for college-bound recipients. College/University Scholarships for Diabetics Julie Sargent Memorial Scholarship is offered to full-time ASU students who have juvenile diabetes and are Arizona residents. However we at CFSF believe in the future of these young adults, their ability to achieve personal and educational goals, and their importance in making a long-term contribution to society on all levels.
