2012 JOURNAL OF SOCIAL HISTORY ESSAY COMPETITION
The Journal of Social History invites candidates for graduate degrees
who are subscribers to the Journal of Social History to submit essays for the
2012 JSH Award Competition.
The winning essay will be published in the
Journal of Social History
and the winner will be awarded a prize of $1000.
The essay should not exceed 8000 words, including endnotes.
The manuscript should be double-spaced and styled according to the strictures of the
The Chicago Manual of Style (University of Chicago Press). Manuscripts are
judged anonymously, thus the author's name, address, email address and
graduate program should appear on the cover sheet only.
Please note:
Authors who are not current subscribers may send a
check for $30 to receive a student subscription at the time
of submission.

The deadline for submitting an essay for consideration is February 1, 2012.
Essays will be judged by a panel of expert in the field of
social history. Some factors considered in the determination of
the winning essay are significance of the topic, analytical scope, competence
in handling evidence, and, of course, relevance to the field of social history.
