Chinese Beginners’Course Sample Assessment Task (Listening / Writing) Language: Chinese Beginners Target Group: HSC Course Mark: 20 Weighting: Date due: Term 1 HSC Course 10% - 5% for listening and 5% for writing Syllabus Topic: Holidays, travel and tourism Components: Listening and writing Context: This task will occur after the students have completed a speaking and writing research activity on travelling to China. Students have learnt about planning a holiday, seasons and sightseeing. Task: Students listen twice to a phone message from a new friend they met in China. They then write a letter to the friend. Outcomes to be assessed: A student: 2.1 understands and interprets information in texts using a range of strategies 2.2 conveys the gist of and identifies specific information in texts 2.4 draws conclusions from or justifies an opinion about a text 2.5 identifies the purpose, context and audience of a text 2.6 identifies and explains aspects of the cultures of Chinese-speaking communities in texts 3.1 produces texts appropriate to audience, purpose and context 3.2 structures and sequences ideas and information 3.3 applies knowledge of diverse linguistic structures to convey information and express original ideas in Chinese. Marking Criteria: Students will be assessed on their ability to: demonstrate understanding of the main ideas and supporting detail in spoken texts select relevant information from a spoken text and respond appropriately present and develop relevant information, ideas and/or opinions create coherent and original text using a range of appropriate structures and vocabulary demonstrate knowledge of Chinese script and letter format.
