Earlswood Historical Society Earlswood Historical Society meets on the second Monday of alternate months from September to July at 7.30pm at Earlswood Village Hall. In recent months we have lost members who have moved away from the area, but on the plus side we have drawn in new members this year. Our membership fee remains at £10 per year and visitors are welcome for a small fee. We have had a number of interesting speakers throughout the year. Our September meeting began with our AGM and Harvest Supper. The evening ended with a slide show of “Earlswood Then and Now”. Other subjects were as follows: November- Metal Detecting and Treasure Hunting. January – Engine Building at Boulton & Watt’s Soho Works. March – The Mystery of the Mary Ashford Murder. Meetings to come: 14th May - Mr. Bob Broadfield – My Life as an Acrobat over 20 years. 9th July - Vanessa Morgan (Genealogist) -A guide to Genealogy. 10th September – AGM and Harvest Supper by ticket only. This year we hope to have as our guest a Military Historian, Robert Johns, from Washington D.C. who is visiting Earlswood to find out more about the Heinkel Bomber Crash in Earlswood. He is hoping to interview anyone who has memories of the event, which took place in May 1941. 12th November – Mr. Brian Teall- Hitler’s V3 and Barnes Wallis’s Amazing Inventions. Earlswood Village Museum Update. The Museum is nearing completion. There is still work to be done in cleaning and putting the displays up. We are opening as usual on the first Saturday of the month from now until October from 2.30 – 4.30. We still need to raise more money for fitting out the Museum and restoration of some artefacts, but we will be applying for Heritage Lottery funding for special display cases and educational material. We need visitors and volunteers to help us to preserve our heritage. For more information e mail valtonks@msn.com or ring 01564703911 Val Tonks (Secretary of Earlswood Historical Society & Hon.
