Prior to assuming the position of General Counsel for North Carolina State
University on April 17, 1996, Ms. Kurz served as Vice Chancellor and General
Counsel of the Texas A&M University System (1994-96); General Counsel and
Vice President for Legal Affairs at Michigan State University (1987-1994);
Legal Counsel at the University of Montana (1982-1987); Assistant Attorney
General for the State of Maryland, assigned principally to represent the
University of Maryland and other state colleges and universities (1975-1982);
Assistant Legislative Officer to the Governor of Maryland (1974-1975);
Assistant Attorney General for the State of Maryland, Criminal Division (197274); and clerked for the Chief Judge of the Court of Special Appeals of Maryland
(1971-1972).

Ms. Kurz received her B.A., magna cum laude, from Marywood College ◊ Faculty Senate
(Pennsylvania) in 1966 and her J.D., with Honors, from the University of ◊ Grievance Committees
Maryland School of Law in 1971. She is a member of the North Carolina, Texas, Legislation
Michigan, Montana, Maryland and District of Columbia Bars. Ms. Kurz served Misuse of State Property/Internal Audit
as President of the National Association of College and University Attorneys in Open Meetings and Public Records
1992-1993 and as a member of the House of Delegates of the American Bar Polices, Regulations and Rules
Association in 1993-1995.
Research Integrity
Ms. Kurz's areas of practice include education law, labor and employment law,
administrative law, affirmative action/equal opportunity law, civil rights and
constitutional law. She has particular familiarity with federal regulations
affecting higher education and is an experienced litigator. She is a frequent
lecturer on legal issues in higher education and has taught courses at the
undergraduate and graduate level.

David Drooz has served the NC State Legal Office since November 1993. Prior Affirmative Action and Diversity
to that, he worked as a Staff Attorney at the NC Court of Appeals from 1983-85, Computer Law
and a Staff Attorney at the Public Staff of the NC Utilities Commission from ◊ Compliance
1985-93. Mr. Drooz received a B.A. degree in Political Science from Haverford ◊ Copyright Infringement
College in 1979, and a J.D. degree from the University of Chapel Hill Law ◊ Privacy
School in1982. He has been licensed to practice law in North Carolina since ◊ Use Copyright
1982, and is a member of the National Association of College and University Debt Collection
Attorneys. Mr. Drooz works on legal issues related to student affairs, public Free Speech/Religion
records, tort liability, debt collection, cyberspace, and employment law, among Law Enforcement
other areas.

Ms. Lannom joined NC State University on December 1, 2003. Prior to that
time, she worked for eight years as Assistant Attorney General with the NC
Department of Justice as lead counsel in all areas of labor/employment law for
the North Carolina Department of Transportation. Ms. Lannom received her
B.A. degree from DePauw University in 1988; J.D. degree from Wake Forest
University School of Law in 1991 and clerked for Judge Jack Cozort of the
North Carolina Court of Appeals from 1991-1994. Ms. Lannom works in the
areas of employment law and civil rights.

Subject Areas
Ms. White joined NC State University on August 23, 2004. Prior to her
employment with NC State, Ms. White worked for the NC Department of Justice
Property Control Section as a Special Deputy Attorney General and Assistant
Attorney General from 1990-2004, Associate Attorney General with the Service
to State Agencies Section from 1986-1990, and a Contract Attorney with
Womble, Carlyle, Sandridge & Rice for one year. Ms. White received her B.S.
degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1982 and J.D.
degree from Campbell University School of Law in 1985. Ms. White works in
areas related to real estate, construction matters, contracts and Centennial
Campus Development.

Deborah Harvey joined the Legal Affairs Office on October 21, 1996. Ms. Harvey previously worked at the North Carolina
Department of Human Resources, Office of the Secretary, from 1993-1996. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in
Political Science from North Carolina A&T State University; Masters of Business Administration from Strayer University;
Paralegal Certification from American Institute of Paralegal Studies; and is a member of the Notary Public Commission.
Ms. Harvey's administrative experiences in the legal profession include bankruptcy; torts and personal injury; real estate;
civil/criminal proceedings and litigation at both the state and federal level. Ms. Harvey serves as the office manager and
assistant to Vice Chancellor and General Counsel, MaryBeth Kurz.
