Condition : The specimen is heavily Ivy-clad, and of only moderate vigour. Minor deadwood is present. Safety Concern : 3 Note : Approximately 80 m of principally Elm hedgerow running East to West with 4 No Oak and 1 No Ash - these are major specimens of prominance and high amenity value. Recommendations : Sever and strip Ivy. Remove deadwood. Inspect stem. Reshape and rebalance as feasible. Rebalance occasional eccentric growth of Elm specimens in hedgerow. Tree No : 6225 Species : Oak (Quercus robur) Height : 7 m DBH : 0.8 m Maturity/Age : Mature Position : 10 m West of 6224 Condition : The specimen is heavily Ivy-clad. 80+ years It is heavily unbalanced to the South due to the removal of the North-facing portion of the crown, leaving a number of large pruning wounds with decay evident. Safety Concern : 2 Recommendations : Sever and strip Ivy and inspect stem. Rebalance the crown by reduction of South facing laterals. Remove deadwood and snags. Monitor the response of the specimen to treatment. Remove 3 No Elm specimens adjacent to the East, and 1 Elm and dead Hawthorn to the West. Tree No : 6226 Species : Ash (Fraxinus excelsior) Height : 12 m DBH : Multi-stemmed Maturity : Mature Position : 20 m West of 6225 Condition : The specimen is lightly Ivy-clad. It is of coppice origin with 3 No major and 2 No minor stems arising at 0.5 m. The crown is of fair vigour, though there is moderate deadwood present throughout. Tree No : 6227 Species : Oak (Quercus robur) Height : 8 m DBH : 0.7 m Maturity : Mature Position : 8 m West of 6226 Condition : The specimen is Ivy-clad. unbalanced to the South. It is There is minor deadwood throughout. Safety Concern : 3 Recommendations : Reduce laterals to the South and South East by up to 2 m in order to rebalance the crown. Remove deadwood. Sever and strip Ivy. Reshape and rebalance as feasible. Tree No : 6228 Species : Oak (Quercus robur) Height : 13 m DBH : 1.4 m Maturity/Age : Mature Position : 8 m West of 0622 Condition : This is an ancient specimen of pollard origin. There are 6 No major stems arising at 3 m. 300+ years Large wounds are evident to the South and West on the main stem at 2 - 3 m from ground level with decay present. There are numerous old pruning wounds and occasional torn snags from contractor damage. Damage to the root system is likely from the adjacent adjacent building works, due to ground disturbance on the South and West faces, apparent compaction and root severance. However, the specimen appears to be of fair vigour. Safety Concern : 1 (a) Note : This Recommendations : Reduce South and South West-facing limbs by 3 - 4 m to suitable secondary points of growth. is an important landscape specimen for conservation. Remove all deadwood and snags. Reshape and rebalance canopy. Introduce topsoil around the area of disturbed ground around the dripline of the tree. Conduct a feeding treatment during the dormant period. Note : Select and remove individual minor specimens from the Elm hedge which runs East to West from 6224 to 6228, to allow the full canopy development of retained specimens.
