New York Junior Tennis League General Information: - New York Junior Tennis League is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization with the following mission statement: “ To develop the character of young people through tennis, emphasizing the ideals and life of Arthur Ashe in the following ways: -Reaching out to young people who otherwise would not have the opportunity to learn and play tennis -Instilling the values of humanitarianism, leadership and academic excellence -Introducing the opportunity to fully develop their tennis skills and competitive potential for a lifetime of enjoyment” -Locations: The programs are offered in all five New York City. -More information is available on the website: http://nyjtl.org/index.html Volunteer Training: NYJTL conducts a coaches training before the start of the Summer Season of programs for all coaching volunteers. Year Around Opportunities: 1. Community Tennis Programs Provides tennis instruction, match play, educational services, and special events to youth ages 6-18. 2. Aces Club After-school Program – During the school year This program is run at New York City public schools to provide children with tennis instruction, and additional activities in arts, nutrition, and special events as they seek to build character. 3. Schoolyard Tennis Program – During the school year This program supplies free tennis equipment, teacher training, and ongoing support to schools that include tennis as a regular part of their physical educational curriculum. 4. Advanced Training Program Provides experienced players ages 9-18 with year-round training by USTA High Performance-certified coaches, travel to top local and national competitions, tournament entry fees, and special events.
