The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), located in Alexandria, VA, is an international medical nonprofit association with a staff of over 175 and growing. We are the world's leading membership organization representing 23,000+ medical professionals who treat people with cancer.
ASCO is seeking a senior-level publishing professional to guide and direct the Society’s journal publishing program. Reporting to the Senior Director of Publications, the Director will plan, develop and manage the Society’s 2 peer-reviewed scholarly journals: Journal of
Clinical Oncology (JCO) and the Journal of Oncology Practice (JOP) . This is a highly visible position for a seasoned manager who wants to make a career move into a recognized leadership role within ASCO. The position involves staff supervision and requires solid experience and success related to staff management, delegation, mentoring and leadership.
Minimum Qualifications
To qualify for this position, the candidate must possess:
Bachelor’s Degree
Ten or more years of management experience in scholarly publishing in positions of increasing responsibility
Proven record of successful leadership and management of staff.
Excellent time management, organizational and communication skills.
Knowledge of editorial, marketing and production processes.
Computer proficiency in Windows environment
Demonstrated superior execution and operational capabilities with significant understanding and knowledge of budgeting and financial management of programs
A strong track record of delivering profitable growth using a well developed, strategic publications program
Collegial and collaborative; consensus building, skilled in conflict management
Ideal Qualifications
The ideal candidate will also possess:
Master’s degree in journalism, business or related field
Experience that includes journal publishing in a non-profit setting
