1. Once upon a time there was a rich merchant who had three beautiful daughters. But the two older sisters were envious off the youngest who was charming and good. People called her “Beauty”. 2. Suddenly the father lost his fortune. The family went to live in a little country cottage. Beauty worked hard. Her sisters did nothing all day. 3. The merchant went to the city one day. He got lost on the way back in a great forest. The night fell. He saw a light and arrived at the entrance of a deserted castle. He ate then slept 4. At that moment he heard a terrible crash and saw a horrible monster. “You steal my beloved roses. Now you shall die!” 6. The Beast answered “I will spare your life if one of your daughters accepts to die in your place.” The Beast disappeared. 7. The Beauty said “I will go to the castle of the Beast.” She went to the castle. 8. The Beast asked her “Will you marry me?”. Beauty answered “No!”. But she stayed to live in the castle. 9. Every evening the Beast visited her and imperceptibly she stopped fearing the monster . 10. One morning Beauty looked into the mirror and saw her father seriously ill.The Beast said “You will see him but you must promise to come back after one week. For I will die of grief without you.” The Beast gave her a magic ring. 11. Next morning Beauty awoke in her father’s cottage. She looked after her father. 12. The week passed. The two wicked sisters were sad. Beauty promised them to stay one week more. She dreamt that the Beast was lying under the white rose-bush. Beauty jumped out of bed and put the magic ring on the table. In the morning she awoke in Beast’s castle. 13. Beauty rushed out to the white rose-bush. There she saw Beast. He was laying on the wet grass. Beast opened his eyes and whispered: “You broke your promise. But now I will die happy, for I saw you!” Beauty cried: “No, dear monster. You must live to be my husband. I love you and I will marry you!” 14. A handsome prince stood in front of her. He kissed her.
