Job Description Coordinator of Gifted and Talented JOB TITLE: Coordinator of Gifted And Talented WAGE/HOUR STATUS: REPORTS TO: Director of Secondary Programs TERMS: DEPARTMENT: Curriculum and Instruction PAY GRADE: Exempt 226 Days Administrative 4 PRIMARY PURPOSE: Coordinate and monitor the Gifted and Talented programs for K-12. Responsible for coordinating all state testing for K-12, conducting required training for specific groups, and keeping abreast of assessment changes as appropriate. QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification: Teacher Certification Gifted/Talented Training Master's Degree Preferred Experience: Two to three years gifted/talented teaching experience. Special Knowledge and Skills: MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: G/T Coordinator 1. Ensure that the district and campuses are in compliance with the Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented Students. 2. Work with teachers and curriculum directors to provide a district-wide GT program in accordance with the Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented Students. 3. Supervise itinerant primary G/T teacher and coordinate services for primary G/T students. 4. Purchase and distribute materials for the K-8 gifted and talented program. Compose and distribute all parent information regarding the availability of the district’s G/T program; publish the information in the student handbooks; publicize Fall and Spring screenings on campuses, on the district’s website and in the newspaper. 6. Coordinate and conduct Fall and Spring G/T screening with the assistance of campus counselor. 7. Conduct summer testing for students new to LISD and transfer student. 8. Conduct testing as necessary throughout the school year to provide student access to the program. 9. Complete correspondence with parents regarding acceptance or denial into the G/T program and disseminate all student matrices and student testing results. 10. Convene the district G/T Screening Committee as needed to review student screening results. 11. Receive and process requests for furloughs and appeals in accordance with District Board policy. 12. Maintain an accurate list of identified G/T students per campus. 13. Maintain performance data on G/T students (TAAS performance, End-of-Course performance, DAP recipients, AP results). 14. Maintain administrator and teacher G/T training records as stated in the Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented Students. 15. Notify campus principal and teachers of training opportunities; provide or arrange for appropriate staff development. 16. Coordinate and teach the SAT Tactical Strategies Seminar for 7th grade students who qualify for the Duke Scholars competition as part of the Talent Identification Program. 17. Coordinate and publicize the PSAT, SAT, and ACT Tactical Strategies Student Seminars at LHS; provide for teacher training as necessary. 18. Coordinate the Lobo Scholars Academy to be held each summer. 19. Disseminate information to campuses and parents about Region VII G/T Summer Scholarships. Disseminate information to campuses and parents about Credit by Exam Without Prior Instruction and coordinate student testing with Region VII consultants. 21. Hold parent meetings about student opportunities as necessary. 22. Attend training related to the program and state requirements as need. Testing Coordinator 23. Work closely with counselors and/or campus TAAS Coordinators and special program directors or supervisors to conduct state-mandated testing. 24. Work with assessment department to create district testing calendars. 25. Receive, Disseminate, and return all district and campus materials for TAAS, End-ofCourse Exams, Filed Tests, RPTE, and Alternative Assessment for Special Education Students according to the procedures as stated in the TAAS Coordinator’s Manual. 26. Plan and conduct the July Exit Level TAAS administration at LHS. 27. Coordinate any other testing mandated by the state such as The National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP) or any achievement test TEA might require in comparative data studies. 28. Conduct required training for principals and campus TAAS coordinators for all statemandated testing. 29. Monitor state-mandated testing on campuses to ensure compliance with testing procedures as stated in the TAAS Coordinator’s manual. 30. Receive and disseminate all TAAS and state-mandated test results. 31. Order, receive and disseminate TAAS Study Guides. 32. Secure additional test administrators as needed on campuses. 33. Assist in coordinating state-mandated testing for students enrolled in alternative education settings, such as Meadow Pines, ABLE, JDC and the Elder community Alternative School (ECAS). 34. Complete correspondence with National Computer systems and/or TEA regarding statemandated testing (test order forms, surveys, etc.). Page 3 of 4 Job Description Coordinator of Gifted and Talented 35. Attend assessment update training at Region VII or TEA and appraise campuses of changes as necessary. 36. Meet with the LISD Assessment Department as needed. 37. Comply with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations. 38. Adhere to the district’s safety policies and procedures. 39. Maintain confidentiality in the conduct of district business. 40. Must be able to perform the essential functions of walking and interacting with students and/or district employees in the specific work site assigned (classroom or office setting). 41. Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance. 42. Other duties as assigned. WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands: Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress; coordinate district-wide curriculum functions; interpret policy, procedures, and data. Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer terminal possible. Occasional districtwide travel. Occasional statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
