GARTER LANE ARTS CENTRE OPEN CALL FOR AN ALL
AGES GROUP EXHIBITION AS PART OF BEALTAINE
CELEBRATIONS
Calling all artists! Garter Lane Arts Centre is thrilled to
announce an open call for artwork to be exhibited in the
upcoming group show ‘What kind of old do you want to
be?’ The artists and selected work will show at the Garter
Lane Theatre Gallery for May 2012.
As it’s the EU Year of Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations we have taken
this years Bealtaine theme of, ‘What kind of old do you want to be?’ as the inspiration
for our open group exhibition. For this call we invite people of all ages, backgrounds,
and artistic abilities to creatively respond to, ‘What kind of old do you want to be?’ We
are looking for unique and interesting approaches to this theme from all ages in any
medium, from drawing, painting, text, collage, sculpture, photography, installation or
anything else you work with. So come young, come old and show us what you got!
‘What kind of old do you want to be?’ Exhibition at Garter Lane will be an opportunity to
showcase creativity from all ages and offer the community the chance to come and see,
engage, appreciate, admire and celebrate the extraordinary talent that Waterford City, County
and the South East has to offer. The closing date for all submissions is 5.00pm on Thursday
19th April 2012. If you wish to enter your artwork for consideration please follow carefully the
guidelines below.
GUIDELINES FOR ENTRY:
1.
Artwork must have been completed after 15 March 2012 and directly respond to the set title
‘What kind of old do you want to be?’
2.
Max one submission per person
3.
All submissions must be fully completed and ready to show in the Theatre Gallery by Thursday
19th April. Final work must also be ready to install i.e. framed and mounted.
4.
No submissions will be accepted after 5.00pm on Thursday 19th April.
SUBMIT YOUR ART (3 easy steps)
1. Email up to max 3 JPEG images of your submission (JPEG images should be no higher than 72 dpi (72
pixels/inch) to garterlaneart@gmail.com
2.Post submission to Visual Arts, Garter Lane Arts Centre, O Connell Street, Waterford.
3. Hand delivered submissions accepted ONLY on Thursday 19th April from 11.30am- 5.00pm to
Garter Lane Arts Centre. Work must be clearly labelled and carefully wrapped/protected. NB:
unsuccessful work must be collected from Garter Lane Arts Centre on Tuesday 24th April 2012 before
5.00pm. Garter Lane Arts Centre cannot take responsibly or any uncollected work after this date.
NB: All submissions must include age, title, medium, date, price and a brief explanation
of how art work relates to the theme in a clear and easy to read format.
ADDITIONAL INFO:

Final deadline for all entries is 5.00pm on 19th April 2012

Successful and unsuccessful artists will be notified on Monday 23rd April (There is no need
to contact the gallery to check the status of your entry).

Any hand delivered unsuccessful work must be collected in Garter Lane Arts Centre on
Tuesday 24th April 2012 before 5.00pm. Garter Lane Arts Centre cannot take responsibly
or any uncollected work after this date.

Artwork chosen for this exhibit must be delivered to the gallery no later than 5.00pm on
Friday 27 April 2012. All selected artwork may be hand delivered or shipped by mail. All
pieces selected will be on display in the gallery and if requested may be available for purchase.
The gallery receives 15% commission on all sales made at the exhibition.
