VOICE, MIGRATION, NARRATION Interdiciplinary Research seminar with Mieke Bal 11.-12.3.2007 Location: Academy of Fine Arts, Kasarmikatu 36, 00130 Helsinki. Seminar room: 262a, 2nd floor Research seminar is intended for PhD students both at the universities and the Academy of Arts. It opens by Mieke Bal’s discussion on Eija-Liisa Ahtila’s work Talo (House) in the presence of artist and continues with PhD students presentations and discussion on Tuesday afternoon. Wednesday morning continues with the presentation of Mieke Bal’s documentary The Mille et un jours and discussion on voice and how to implement voices without overruling the voice of the other. If you want to attend the seminar and / or represent your work (orally) please send an application to Outi Hakola by February 19 description your work and interest to participate this seminar by few sentences. If you want present your work send also an abstract of maximum 300 words. Seminar will continue at the Ateneum sali, in the Ateneum Art Museum on 12.3.2008 at 13.30-18.00. Hearing Voices, or How to Not Speak for the Other. Mieke Bal’s screening and lecturing on intercultural filmmaking, open to public. Mieke Bal is a cultural theorist and critic. She is currently Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences Professor and is based at the Amsterdam School for cultural Analysis (ASCA). Her areas of interest range from biblical and classical antiquity to 17th century and contemporary art, feminism and migratory culture. She is also a video-artist. Her experimental documentaries on migration include The Mille et un jours, Colony and the installation Nothing is Missing.
