CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Goldthwaite High School football team achieved outstanding success
during the 1992 season by advancing to the state finals in University Interscholastic League
(UIL) Class 2A football; and
WHEREAS, Winners of the 1985 Class A state championship, the Eagles made their
second appearance in a state championship football game, reaching the 1992 title game against
defending state champion Schulenburg High School on an impressive 13-2-1 record and thus
becoming the first Goldthwaite team ever to compete in the Class 2A finals; and
WHEREAS, The Eagles' many thrilling and decisive victories this season included three
consecutive shutouts against area rivals Ranger, DeLeon, and San Saba that showcased the
overwhelming power of the team's explosive offense and dominating defense; and
WHEREAS, Head coach and athletic director Gary Proffitt, assistant coaches Tim
Spradley, David Knauth, and Kevin Burns, and managers Gabino Barrera, Reagan Marshall, and
Ray Shockey are to be congratulated for their hard work and tremendous skill in shaping this
excellent team; and
WHEREAS, The success of the 1992 Eagles can also be attributed to the great talent and
dedication of its team members: Michael Geeslin, Keith Cockrum, Heath Nuckolls, Ryan
Rountree, Bryan Jernigan, Jon Robello, Craig Auldridge, Cheyenne Horton, Andy Beard,
Salomon Barrera, Scott Dowell, Jory Sutherland, Culley Carr, Kent Schillings, Travis King,
Donald Newton, J. J. Boese, Juan Siller, Daniel Branton, George Reyes, Tony Slaughter, Paul
Wiedebusch, Clint Patrick, Luis Barrera, and Brandon Jackson; and
WHEREAS, The selfless team spirit that united this outstanding group of young athletes
to form a championship-caliber unit also allowed the team to capitalize on the exceptional
athletic ability of each player, which was evident in the many individual honors garnered by the
Goldthwaite Eagles; and
WHEREAS, Quarterback Craig Auldridge and guard and linebacker J. J. Boese were
selected for the 1992 District 8-2A all-district football teams, earning Most Valuable Player
honors on the offense and defense, respectively; and
WHEREAS, Eagle players Beard, Newton, Jernigan, Sutherland, Robello, Barrera, Carr,
Geeslin, Nuckolls, Rountree, and Cockrum also were selected for all-district team honors; and
WHEREAS, Band director Chris Lovejoy, drum major Rachel Foster, and the Eagles'
exuberant cheerleaders, twirler/flag crew, mascot, and cheerleader sponsor also deserve
recognition for the invaluable support they provided to the team; and
WHEREAS, These fine young men and their coaches have brought great joy and pride to
all the citizens of Goldthwaite and have achieved honor for their school through a winning
combination of teamwork and athletic excellence; their extraordinary achievement in reaching
the 1992 Class 2A state football championship is indeed worthy of legislative recognition; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas hereby congratulate the
Goldthwaite High School Eagles on their superb performance in 1992 and extend them best
wishes for their continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared for district
superintendent Grayson Wetzel, principal Alan Hildebrand, the coaches, team members, and
managers, and for prominent display at Goldthwaite High School as an expression of high regard
by the Texas Legislature.
