Every car has a value, whether it's roadworthy or only good for scrap.
Giveacar is a social enterprise that allows you to donate your old car, just as
you might donate possessions to a charity shop. Our goals are simple - to
raise as much money as possible for registered charities and to recycle cars
to the highest environmental standards.
How Does Scrap Car Donation Work?
The process is very simple. When you call or email us, we will arrange a convenient
time to send round a tow truck. Our vehicles are picked up by the largest vehicle
manufacturer approved car recycling network in the UK. They will pick up any car, at
no cost to you, and either sell it at a salvage auction, or dispose of it through an
authorised treatment facility. Either way the charity benefits!

How it Works...
Turning your vehicle into cash for charity
Giveacar works in conjunction with the largest nationwide car recycling network to
coordinate the donation of cars. Any car that is donated will either be sold in a
salvage auction for its salvage value, or disposed of at an authorised Treatment
Facility (ATF). Our salvage partner guarantees a return for every car we give them regardless of condition!
The Three Step Process
1. Contact
A Giveacar employee takes down all customer details. We then
forward those details to our salvage partner. A collection agent is
assigned and calls to arrange a convenient time for vehicle
collection.
2. Collection
All vehicles are collected within 7 days of the initial enquiry. All
cars, including those that do not start, can be collected and loaded
onto the tow trucks.
3. Donation
Depending on a vehicle's state of repair, it will either be sold at
auction or disposed of at an Authorised Treatment Facility.
Giveacar receives the donation shortly after the sale or disposal.
We will process the donation for our own records and then forward it to your chosen
charity. You will be sent a receipt from both Giveacar and the charity.

Why should I trust Giveacar?
Giveacar is currently registered with Companies House as a company limited by
guarantee. As a fundraising organisation, we are approved by the Fundraising
Standards Board – you can find our registration details here. The Fundraising
Standards Board is an independent body that was set up to ensure compliance with
the best practice in fundraising and to encourage the public to give with confidence.
Giveacar has established excellent relationships with many large and small charities.
All of the charities on our website have asked to be affiliated with our scheme, and
we are entitled to accept donations on their behalf. If you would like to know more

Is Giveacar a registered charity?
No, Giveacar is not a registered charity. It is a fundraising organisation that
encourages the donation of cars to charity. We have two aims: to reduce the
environmental impact of end-of-life cars, and to raise money for UK registered
charities.
Who runs the service?
The service was created by geography graduate, Tom Chance, 23. Now aided
by four full-time employees, we are passionate about promoting car donation,
reducing the environmental impact of end-of-life vehicles and raising money for our
affiliated charities
Where is Giveacar based?
We are based in Wandsworth, South-West London. You can find the exact location
on our contact page. Please note that we can collect vehicles throughout the UK.

FAQs about how Charities benefit from the work of Giveacar.
Does Giveacar charge an administration fee?
Yes, we do charge an administration fee. We deduct 20% of what we receive from
our salvage operator. So for example, if we received £100 for a vehicle, £80 would
go to charity and we would retain £20. This administration fee covers the costs of
running the office and employing staff. We aim to keep our costs low (staff even bring
their own laptops into work!) so that as much as possible can go directly to your
chosen charity
Can I donate my car to any registered charity?
Yes! We can organise to have a vehicle's equivalent value donated to any registered
charity. We also have a specific list of charities we support.
Can I split my donation between two or more charities?
Yes, though this is unusual, we are quite happy to arrange it.
Will the charity contact me after I donate my car?
Yes. We ask our charities to send receipts to our customers. You will be told exactly
how much your car raised for your chosen charity.

FAQs about how Giveacar collects vehicles for donation to charities.
Who picks up the cars?
All the cars donated to Giveacar are picked up by Cartakeback. They are one of the
market leaders in the car salvage industry and have a variety of contracts with
leading car manufacturers. They work in conjunction with Authorised Treatment
Facilities located throughout the country to coordinate the collection of vehicles.
What areas of the UK does Giveacar operate from?
We operate throughout the UK. Cartakeback have an extensive logistics network and
can pick up cars even in the most remote locations
How long does it take to collect a vehicle?
After the initial enquiry, your vehicle will be collected within 7 days. Cartakeback will
organise the exact day and time with you. Please note that 7 days is the maximum,
and often vehicles are collected much sooner than this. All vehicles are collected free
of charge.
Who will pick up my vehicle?
Once we take down your details, a collection agent or Authorised Treatment Facility
will be assigned to collect the vehicle. Our salvage partners operate an extensive
network of over three-hundred Authorised Treatment Facilities.
Do I have to be with the vehicle when it is collected?
This is not required. However, we would encourage it where possible
Do I have any legal obligations for the vehicle after it is collected?
No, when your vehicle is collected, you will be issued with a collection receipt and
section 9 of the V5C form. Both ensure that you have no legal obligations to the car
after it has been collected.

What do I need to donate a vehicle?
We need to be able to take away the vehicle legally. We therefore require you to be
in possession of the vehicle's registration document (V5C). We can take away
vehicles without tax or MOT. However, if you do have an MOT certificate, it would
increase the value of the car.
Can I reclaim my car tax?
Yes
Can I retain my number plate?
Yes
Can I donate an abandoned vehicle?
No. You must have a car's paperwork to donate it. We recommend contacting your
local council if you suspect a vehicle has been abandoned.
Vehicle Sale
FAQs on how Giveacar turns your unwanted vehicle into cash for charity.
How are the cars sold?
We receive an instant quote from Cartakeback, as soon as we receive details of the
customer. Cartakeback will then pick up the cars, free of charge, and make a
payment depending on the value of the scrap metal. Our average donation is
approximately £80.
What if a car is valueless?
We guarantee a return for every car - regardless of condition. We can turn even the
scruffiest of cars into a donation so please do not think your car is valueless!
What if the car is valuable - will you get a good price for it?
Yes, we'll try to! Valuable cars are put into an online auction on our salvage partner
Bluecycle's pages. This enables us to get the market value for cars of a higher worth.
Will I have to pay any costs?
No, any donations will be gratefully accepted. You will not pay any costs towards the
process of disposing of or selling your vehicle.
Will you tell me how much my car has sold for?
Yes. If your car is auctioned we will send you a receipt in the post when the auction
ends. You will also be sent a receipt from your chosen charity.
