CITY OF SAN ANTONIO HIRING FOR GROUNDBREAKING EDUCATION INITIATIVE
Informational Job Fair Slated for April 4 in Dallas, Starting Teacher Pay $60K
SAN ANTONIO (March 27, 2013) – The City of San Antonio has begun the hiring process to fill more than
100 teaching and support positions for its citywide education initiative Pre-K 4 SA, which is earning
national attention ahead of its August kickoff. An informational job fair will be hosted in Dallas on
Thursday, April 4 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Dallas Public Library (East/West Rooms), 1515 Young Street.
Recently named one of the “Top Ten Metropolitan Innovations to Watch in 2013” by the Brookings
Metropolitan Policy Program and The Rockefeller Foundation, Pre-K 4 SA is a groundbreaking early
childhood education model that will provide high-quality, full-day Pre-K for 2,000 eligible four-year olds
in four model education centers in San Antonio. Pre-K 4 SA is designed to dramatically improve early
childhood education outcomes by increasing access throughout the city and placing a premium on
attracting top teachers and support personnel. Starting pay for master teachers is $60,000 annually.
Spearheaded by San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro, Pre-K 4 SA will launch this August with the opening of
the first two model education centers. The City of San Antonio is hiring positions for each center,
including master teachers. These individuals will plan and implement activities that promote the
intellectual, social, emotional and physical growth of four-year-old children enrolled in the program. This
position requires at least three years of early childhood teaching experience; a valid teaching certificate
with required endorsements to teach early childhood education from any State’s Educator Certification
Department; and the ability to obtain certification in Texas.

“We are seeking to assemble a team of passionate educators who can motivate students and help build
the foundation for our young people’s future success,“ Castro said. “This program has the potential to
serve as the model for early childhood education across the country and we want those who are
innovative, creative, and dedicated to this mission on our team.”
In addition to master teachers, the City is also hiring talented candidates for other Pre-K 4 SA positions,
including teacher assistants, nurses, and professional and administrative staff. Those interested in
applying are encouraged to attend the informational job fair where there will be opportunities to speak
with members of the City of San Antonio’s recruitment team, as well as those overseeing the Pre-K 4 SA
program. Additionally, three presentations offering an overview of Pre-K 4 SA will be given during the
fair at 4:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m., and 6:30 p.m.
