Target items: Names of classroom objects Materials: Matching cards (classroom objects) Steps: Level 1 (for less able students): 1. Divide students in pairs and give out a set of matching cards. One student takes the picture cards and the other takes the word cards. 2. Teacher shows an object in the classroom and asks students “How do we say…?” 3. Students put up the corresponding cards and read out the word. 4. The pair who can finish the task faster will be the winner. Level 2 (for more able students): 1. Divide students in pairs and give out a set of matching cards. 2. One student turns over one picture card and say “How do we say…?”. The other student finds one word card and read out the word. 3. If cards do not match with each other, students have to turn over the cards and wait for another turn. If the cards are matched, student can take the pair of cards. 4. The student who gets more pairs will be the winner. 4 Task 2 – What can we do with ...? Target items: The skill to associate verbs with the classroom objects Materials: Picture cards (verbs), worksheet 1 Steps: 1. Divide the class into two groups, group A and group B. Each student of group A gets a picture card of classroom objects. Each student of group B gets a picture card of verbs. 2. Teacher picks one student from group A and one student group B to show their cards to the class. Teacher demonstrates how to put verbs with the classroom objects. (e.g. We can write with a chalk.) 3. Students walk around the classroom to find a partner from another group to form a pair. 4. Teacher invites some pairs to present the information in the picture cards using the pattern (e.g. We can write with a chalk.) 5. 6. Teacher introduces how to use the verbs in other objects (e.g. listen to the radio). Students work together to finish the worksheet. Task 3 – What is your favourite subject? Target items: Vocabulary related to subjects Materials: Worksheet 2 Steps: 1. Teacher introduces the names of different subjects. 2. Students walk around the classroom to ask others about their favourite subjects using the pattern “What 3. 4. 5. is your favourite subject?” Students answer the questions using the pattern “My favorite subject is ________” Students record the answers in the worksheet. Students present their charts to the neighbour. Task 4 – What is in the book?
