PREREQUISITES: Successful completion of Read 0950: Preparation for
College Reading 1 (“C” grade or better) or placement examination
CATALOG DESCRIPTION:
Preparation for College Reading 2 focuses on reading of poetry, fiction, essays,
and textbook material to acquire the skills necessary for effective college
reading. These skills are achieved through both discussion and written analysis.
Vocabulary expansion is achieved through learning context clues and individual
practice. Regular practice to improve reading and comprehension skills is
provided.

COURSE GOALS/OBJECTIVES/OUTCOMES:
Students will:

STUDENT CONTRIBUTIONS:
The student will attend class regularly, participate in class discussion, complete
all assignments, and complete the final examination. The student will spend a
minimum of two hours completing assignments for every hour of class.
Assignments must meet the minimum grading criteria set by the instructor.
METHODS FOR EVALUATING STUDENT LEARNING:
The final grade will be determined by grades earned on quizzes, assignments, a
final project for the novel, class participation, and a final exam.
SPECIAL INFORMATION: (SPECIAL FEES, DIRECTIVES ON HAZARDOUS
MATERIALS):
A dictionary is required.
The student must pass Read 0960 with a grade of ‘C’ or higher to be eligible to
enroll in Reading 1320 or other classes with a reading prerequisite.
