ASSISTANTSHIP AND FELLOWSHIP APPLICATION
English Graduate Office, Box 354330
University of Washington
Seattle, WA 98195-1240
Appointment to a Teaching, Research, Staff Assistantship or Fellowship is contingent upon admission of the student to the Graduate
School prior to the beginning of his/her service or award. Continuation or reinstatement of an appointment is contingent upon good
standing in the Graduate School as determined by the Dean of the Graduate School.
Assistantships ordinarily require participation on a half-time basis in teaching or research programs. Assistants are required to register each
quarter for not less then ten (10) credits applicable to their advanced degrees. Stipend levels for Graduate Student Service Appointments
are published annually, and conditions of service are set forth in publications available in the English Graduate Office and the Graduate
School.
NEED BASED FINANCIAL AIDS (Loans, Work-Study) requires a separate application which may be obtained from the Student Financial
Aid Office, 105 Schmitz Hall, Box 355880, University of WA. Students should meet application deadline even if they have not yet been
admitted to the Graduate School.
EXTERNAL FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES—these competitions require direct applications from the student. Further information on these
“external” programs may be obtained from the Graduate School, Office of Fellowships and Awards, University of Washington.
