Description of Business Environment:
The Software Engineer will be a member of the Engineering Function and could be
assigned to a range of programmes. Typical programmes would be within the Military
Systems unit, including Merlin Capability Sustainment Plus, Vigilance, Research and
Development and New Business. Opportunities in the Systems Solutions unit could also
be considered to support specific development needs.
Specific Job Description:
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, and under the general direction of the
Engineering Leadership Team, the role provides software support to the programmes
assigned.
Various software engineering activities will be undertaken and can be tailored towards
the candidate’s skills and development aspirations, but typically tasks will include
analysis of subsystem requirements, production of software design and implementation,
artefact reviews and a variety of types of testing.
There will be opportunities for developing supporting tools and scripts that aid in the
above software development activities. The candidate will be exposed to several
disciplines (Human Factors, Systems Engineering, Commercial, etc) in addition to
Software Engineering.

 Ability to prioritise own tasking to meet program needs

 Windows (NT/2003/7/2008)
 UNIX OS

Standard Job Description:
Selected employees to perform tasks and assignments over a 2 year programme to
emphasise development of technical, professional and interpersonal skills in a structured
framework within the engineering disciplines, such as software, mechanical, electrical,
and systems. Participates in specific training opportunities under the graduate
programme involving IET/LM Manual for professional development, mentoring, role
experience and graduate projects. Candidates for this position are selected following
completion of a bachelors degree and assessed by the graduate board and BU
Leadership team as possessing requisite skills and abilities for future career
development.
