Application for Membership
What is ESULA?
ESULA is a recognized student organization (RSO) housed out of University Libraries & Archives. The
purpose of the RSO is:
 To raise awareness of and serve as an advocate for University Libraries & Archives services and
collections.
 To serve as an on-campus peer resource/mentor for University Libraries & Archives.
What kinds of activities will I participate in as an ESULA member?







Present residence hall floor programs on University Libraries & Archives services
Give tours of University Libraries & Archives facilities for English Composition and School of
Library & Information Management (SLIM) Orientation classes
Make presentations to newly-enrolled students on University Libraries & Archives services at
SWARM programs
Participate in activities for the William Allen White Children’s Book Award celebration
Participate in activities for National Library Week
Participate in activities for Banned Books Week
Participate in/coordinate other activities for the ESU and Emporia communities regarding library,
reading, and other information literacy programs
What will I gain from involvement with ESULA?
As a member of ESULA, you will receive the following benefits:
 An ESULA polo shirt for ESULA activities
 Dinners with the Dean of University Libraries & Archives
 Complimentary food
 Enhanced library privileges
 A personal letter of recommendation from the Dean of University Libraries & Archives
 Opportunities to interact and network with University Libraries & Archives faculty & staff
 Opportunity to gain leadership development skills through participation in a recognized student
organization
What is the time commitment for being an ESULA member?
ESULA members are expected to give at least four hours of service each month to the organization and
University Libraries & Archives. In addition, the following activities are required attendance:
 ESULA Member Training—held on one day at the beginning of school in August
 William Allen White Children’s Book Award Activities—October
 National Library Week—April
 Monthly meetings of ESULA
