Course Description
The emphasis in this course is the clinical application of the skills and knowledge acquired in previous courses. Students make and interpret radiographs of patients attending for diagnostic work-ups, as well as taking part in clinical radiologic conferences (CRCs).

Course Objectives
The student will be able to:

Make standard radiographs required in daily dental practice.

Demonstrate and utilize problem solving abilities by interpreting radiographs in CRCs that utilize and integrate knowledge previously acquired in various areas of the dental program up to that time.

Clinical : one 3-hour clinic/2weeks

Course Outline:
1. CRCs as per the schedule posted by the department will be held with a member of the radiology teaching staff. Students take turns interpreting radiographs and discussing how the interpretations were derived. Students may be asked to defend those interpretations against alternative interpretations by classmates, and may be asked to suggest appropriate treatments (to show that the actual nature of the finding is understood).
2. Radiographs are made of patients, during the assigned ITU rotations, and interpreted for review with one of the doctors in the clinic.
3. Radiographs of patients made by staff members, other students or faculty may also be assigned for interpretation and review with one of the doctors in radiology.

Identify and describe the radiographic appearances of apical inflammatory lesions describe and recognize the radiologic appearances of dental resorption. describe and differentiate among classic appearances of the fibrous dysplasias, cherubism, Paget's disease of bone, periapical cemental dysplasia and florid cemento-osseous dysplasia. describe and recognize the radiologic features of benign space occupying lesions and be able to differentiate these from those of malignant lesions. interpret the radiographs s/he makes, at the level of ability expected of a competent dental general practitioner.
Additional Notes
Attendance: Students must attend 100% of all scheduled clinics and CRCs. Class participation is required. Should an absence be necessary, student should contact the course coordinator by telephone immediately. Work or quizzes missed can ONLY make up with an excused absence.

- Late arrivals to class are unexcused absences
- All course make-ups, test, and so forth, must be completed within 14 days from the date of the excused absence.
