RESEARCH PROJECTS
1. I conducted thesis on "Pulse Oximetry as a fifth Vital Sign in
Emergency Pediatric Medicine" under guidance and supervision of
Dr. C.T. Deshmukh for my dissertation at Mumbai University for
Postgraduate Exam in M.D. Pediatric Medicine January 2002.

at EMBICON 2002 on "Pulse oximetry as fifth vital sign"
2. I conducted thesis on "MRI Profile In Childhood Epilepsy" under
guidance and supervision of Dr. C.T. Deshmukh for my dissertation at
College Of Physicians and Surgeons Mumbai for Postgraduate
Examination in FCPS Pediatric Medicine January 2002.
3. Presented an innovative paper on pediatric office practice and
decision helping software with dosage calculator: PEDPORT, at
first conference of Indian Academy of Medical Informatics, at Nagpur,
in May 2006. (I was a domain expert for the said software from
Mediaware group).
4. Also, presented a paper at Annual Pediatric conference PEDICON
2007, on “Clinical Profile of Down syndrome”, on Jan 13/01/2007.
5. Also, presented a paper on “Malaria: a year after deluge in
Mumbai” was taken as read at Annual Pediatric conference
PEDICON 2007.
6. Currently involved as co investigator in two confidential clinical
trials, namely with Serum Institute India Limited, and Sanofi Aventis
India Limited.
7. Two papers are sent for poster this year for two international
conference as a coinvestigator and coauthor;
1. A paper on “Applicability of PRISM SCORE in
Pediatric critical Cerebral malaria; “ sent to Annual
Conference of Europian Society of Infectious Diseases.

2. A paper on “Allergic rhinitis in Children: a

Europian Respiratory Society (ERS) 2007.

Emergency Management: I have expertise in Cardiopulmonary resuscitations,
managed cases of status epilepticus, status asthmaticus, dehydration and shock
and various other emergencies in the emergency department. I have managed
patients on the ventilator in PICU and NICU.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE :
I have been involved in bedside clinical tutorial and lectures for undergraduate students
and also postgraduate juniors as per the teaching curriculum at our hospital since 1997. I
had actively participated in clinical presentations, case presentations/discussions,
interhospital meetings and seminars. My post is a pediatrics teaching post for two years
initially as Registrar (Aug 2000 to July 2002) and then for an year as Asst Medical officer
till date. The teaching also includes conducting bedside clinical teaching rounds for
undergraduates and postgraduate students of pediatrics including wards and ICU
individually.
INTENSIVE PAEDIATRIC CARE UNIT (PICU / IPCU):
As a house officer and then as a registrar in IPCU, I managed and supervised
emergencies like status asthmaticus, status epilepticus, shock, GBS, congestive cardiac
failure, hepatic encephalopathy, snake poisoning, acute poisonings, dehydration, sepsis,
common infections etc. I also managed critically ill patients on ventilators. Also managed
cases of inborn errors of metabolisms. Then as a senior registrar in PICU ; I took active
part in teaching the junior residents and house officers. Since last two years, I am
affiliated to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit as an assistant medical officer and take
daily rounds guiding the registrars taking decisions and managing patients in PICU.
NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT (NICU) :
I managed neonates requiring specialized care in cases of asphyxia, IUGR, neonatal
sepsis, hypoglycemia, convulsions, preterm, hyperbilirubinemia and inborn errors of
metabolism etc. I have carried out neonatal resuscitations in labour ward; I had performed
more than 80 exchange transfusions in last 3 years. I worked in neonatal intensive care
unit for 5 months as a a part of the training at Seth G S Medical College and KEM
Hospital Mumbai.
As a house officer in neonatology at KEM Hospital Mumbai and then as a neonatologist
(FOR 1 YEAR, as a part time job at Surya Nursing Home ( a tertiary neonatal care
center), I am skilled in neonatal resuscitation, central/long lines, umbilical lines,
attending labour room calls and caesarian sections for neonatal care. Also I am trained in
Neonatal Advanced Life Support through NALS provider course (NNF recognized). Also
I had carried out exchange transfusions and I am able to manage newborns on ventilatory
support. I am skilled in neonatal intubations and management of various neonatal
illnesses and their complications.
HEMATOLOGY AND ONCOLOGY OPD:
I have worked in the Pediatric Hematology OPD at B.J. Wadia Hospital for two months
as a resident in pediatrics. I attended cases of ALL, Hodgkin and Non Hodgkin
Lymphomas, Neuroblastomas, other tumors, aplastic anemias, nutritional anemias and
various syndromic and hemolytic anemias. I have expertise in giving intrathecal and
intravenous chemotherapy and also bone marrow aspiration and biopsy.
PEDIATRIC CHEST CLINIC:
I had attended and managed patients of bronchial asthma and other respiratory illnesses;
and am skilled in performing and interpreting Pulmonary Function Tests. For 2 Yrs.
PEDIATRIC CARDIOLOGY EXPERIENCE:
For almost 8 months; I had attended Pediatric Cardiology sessions at Glennmark Cardiac
Center under guidance of Dr Bharat Dalvi. I have attended atleast 600 colour doppler
sessions and am able to interprete and report the same.
GENETIC CLINIC:
I attended genetic clinic and managed cases with metabolic disorders and genetic
diseases. I actively participated in genetic counselling sessions.
NEPHROLOGY CLINIC:
I had also attended pediatric nephrology clinic at B.J. Wadia Hospital. I had managed
pediatric nephrology cases including nephrotic syndrome and acute glomerulonephritis
on outpatient and inpatient basis. I had been skilled in pediatric peritoneal dialysis.
