Press Release For Immediate Release Contact: Dia Kuykendall January, 27 2012 Ron Sachs Communications 850.224.1996 Florida Architects 2012 President Reaches Out to Next Generation Tallahassee, FL – Vero Beach architect Peter Jones, AIA, has been elected 2012 president for the Florida Association of the American Institute of Architects (AIA Florida). Jones is also acutely aware of the importance of growing the talent pool and exposing people of all ages to architecture and the architecture profession. Jones, who provides architectural services in Vero Beach, is currently in his second year of teaching an architecture class called “Owner/Builder” at Indian River Charter High School. This class helps students understand basic design principles, career choices in the design and architecture field, and gives young adults a healthier appreciation for architecture in their day-today lives. This class has been a required course for many years, but has never been taught by an architect until Jones joined the teaching staff as a vocational instructor. “The architecture profession needs to look outward instead of inward,” said Jones. “Teaching is a great way to reach a wider audience and open the next generation to the built environment. While not every one of these students will go on to become an architect, they will certainly have a greater appreciation for the profession and may see the value in hiring an architect in their future endeavors.” A hands-on leader who has engaged in AIA leadership at the local, state, and national level, Jones has also served as vice president, secretary/treasurer and president-elect since joining the AIA Florida Board of Directors in 2005. “I am proud to serve as president for AIA Florida as we commemorate our 100th Anniversary in 2012,” Jones said. “Architecture plays an important role in our everyday lives and I look forward to celebrating the profession as we build on the past to shape the future.” Jones has more than 20 years of architectural, planning and urban design experience, including overseeing architecture operations, client management and business development aspects of the architectural profession. He is also an active community volunteer, serving as past-president of Main Street Vero Beach, a group of residents, property owners, elected officials and business leaders dedicated to making Vero Beach an attractive place to live, work, shop and play. ### Editor’s Note: A photo of Peter Jones, AIA, is attached.
